Location: Evanston, IL
(This position is designated as Fully Flexible Hybrid and expected to work from our World Headquarters office once per month to several times a week. Rotary is under the jurisdiction of Illinois employment laws; we require all employees to live within reasonable daily commuting distance to Evanston.)

General Overview
The global content editor works on a wide range of print and digital content for Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation, maintaining Rotary's high standards for written communications. The specialist copyedits and proofreads materials for a global English audience, performs quality control checks on the design and text of materials in several languages, and supports the other goals of Rotary's Global Content team.
You Will Be Responsible For
* Copyedits website content, newsletters, marketing materials, training materials, forms, etc., for clarity, accuracy, consistency, grammar, mechanics, and voice
* Teaches staff writers about Rotary's brand voice and style, including by helping the content editing manager develop training sessions and materials
* Communicates quality standards and guidelines for working with Global Content staff to writers; addresses quality concerns
* Fields questions from staff about grammar, mechanics, style, and voice
* Proofreads English materials, watching for errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and style
* Checks the typesetting and layout of materials in English and other languages
* Works with writers, editors, designers, and quality control staff
* Helps to maintain the house style guide and other reference materials
* Supports the training and globalization efforts of the content editing manager
* Assists with department responsibilities as needed
* May hire and supervise freelance copy editors
* May schedule and manage copyediting workflow
You Will Have
* Bachelor's degree; English, communications, or journalism preferred
* 4+ years as a copy editor
* Superb editing and proofreading skills, including use of Word's track changes function
* Strong background in copyediting in a journalism context
* Familiarity with AP style
* Knowledge of page makeup and layout standards
* Strong word processing and internet research skills
* Ability to balance a number of assignments and meet tight deadlines
* Excellent organizational and time-management skills
* Strong interpersonal skills, tact, and flexibility
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and speaking
Preferred Experience
* Editing of English materials for international audiences
* Editing of materials that will be translated
* Proofreading
* Use of Word's track changes feature
* Use of Adobe InCopy and Acrobat
* Knowledge of a language other than English
* International work or educational experience
