Job Summary THIS TITLE IS TO BE USED FOR AN ENGINEER WITH A QUALIFIED DEGREE FROM AN ABET ACCREDITED ENGINEERING PROGRAM WHILE IN EXTENSIVE TRAINING TO OBTAIN QUALIFICATIONS AS A SHIFT TECHNICAL ADVISOR. This job is established only for employees who have been on-site at least six months after hire who have entered the formal training program for the Shift Technical Advisor (STA) qualification/certification. Upon successful completion of the training program, the employee(s) will be qualified to perform the STA function of ensuring that adequate engineering and accident assessment expertise is available on-shift. Once qualified as a Shift Technical Advisor (STA) the employee's responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following: Providing engineering and accident assessment advice to the on-duty Operations staff during accident and transient conditions. Coordinating activities with site personnel in order to support plant operations. Assessing Spent Fuel Pool heat load during both outage and non-outage conditions. Performing risk reviews for emergent activities and schedule changes in accordance with WM-AA-301, Operational Risk Assessment, and EOOS, as applicable. Reviewing reactivity management plans; Performing risk evaluations for emergent configurations, when requested by the Unit SRO. Supporting the on-duty Operations staff in matters pertaining to plant operations. Notifying appropriate Station Management when there has been a reactor trip or other significant event or transient as soon as possible. Conducting independent reactor trip reviews and investigating unplanned reactor trips. Providing advisory technical support to the Shift Manager in the areas of thermal hydraulics, reactor engineering, and plant analysis with regard to the safe operation of the unit. During the course of the prescribed training period, incumbents in this role may function in the capacity of Engineer II (i.e. during outages and/or emergent situations). Perform other duties as requested or assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience One (1) year of professional level nuclear power plant experienceThree (3) years of related experienceSix (6) months experience shall be required on-site prior to entering the formal training programKnowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentalsRequires developmental experience in a professional engineering positionCompetency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectivesUnderstands and can apply knowledge of configuration managementAbility to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.) Planning, organizational and project management skillsAbility to develop and exercise leadership skillsEffective decision making skillsEffective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing)Ability to think analytically and solve complex problemsAbility to interpret codes, regulations and practicesEqually effective working independently or in a team environmentAbility to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks Education Requirements REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
