Parsons is adding a Principal Level Drainage Engineer within the Mobility Solutions sector of the Desert/Mountain West Region. If youre looking to grow your career, we have the right project opportunities along with local and regional staff to support your success. This position will be based out of the Denver, Colorado office though telecommuting will be considered as needed. The role will be focused on the delivery of timely, innovative, and efficient designs and coordinating Drainage designs with all other engineering and design disciplines.

We need our Principal Engineers to be versatile and enthusiastic to work in a highly flexible, team oriented environment and have exceptional communication, analytical, and management skills.

Position Overview:

The successful candidate will determine methods and solutions for complex hydrologic and hydraulic problems and select the most efficient and economical methodology in meeting Project objectives. Applies advanced engineering techniques and analyses within the Drainage Engineering discipline. This level of engineer is a fully qualified professional, proficient in the utilization of current Drainage Engineering theories and practices. May serve as a technical consultant in Drainage Engineering for management or the client. Many assignments involve CAE (computer aided engineering)/CAD (computer aided design) applications. Project Management activities, including managing direct reports with respect to Project scope, schedule, and budget and interfacing with clients is expected as required. Willingness to travel to supplier, client, or construction site locations, as required.

Responsibilities:

  • May function as discipline Project Engineer on medium to large projects, assuming responsibility for the work of the group.

  • May plan, direct, and supervise the work of a major engineering unit or project requiring a large-scale expenditure of manpower and financial investment.

  • May perform typical transportation Drainage design activities as required, including but not limited to:

  • Drainage area peak flow/volumetric (hydrograph) runoff calculations.

  • Inlet and roadway spread calculations.

  • Storm drain design calculations.

  • Detention/retention pond design.

  • Water quality calculations/site design.

  • River modeling (1D and 2D) for bridge replacement Projects.

  • Construction plan production.

  • Quality control checks of sheets and calculations.

  • Leads other engineers and design personnel in technical excellence and growth in the Quality Improvement Process.

  • Provides Drainage review for interdisciplinary design reviews and analytical studies/analyses.

  • Ensures compliance of Drainage design with all applicable contracts, codes, and regulations, providing the seal and signature of the Professional Engineer when required by statute or contract.

  • Conducts surveys, studies, and site investigations.

  • Maintains affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies.

  • Helps determine budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule.

  • Recommends and prepares technical papers.

  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (or related field) and 10+ years of related work experience.

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration.

  • Potential to perform in a lead capacity.

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.

  • Familiarity with industry best practices.

  • Thorough knowledge of current Drainage Engineering software.

  • Able to select and apply appropriate Drainage Engineering software for use on a project.

  • Experience with Microstation, InRoads/OpenRoads Designer, and/or AutoCAD Civil3D.

Salary Range: $92,200.00 - $161,400.00
