Position Summary and Responsibilities

SUMMARY:

Design, Install, calibrate, repair and perform preventive maintenance of electronic, electro-mechanical, and/or mechanical instrumentation.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

  • Disassembles, inspects, cleans, repairs, calibrates, tests, and performs periodic maintenance of specialty equipment, systems and controls.
  • Operates such electronic test equipment as multi-meters, frequency generators and counters, galvanometers, digital logic probes and oscilloscopes.
  • Inspects, evaluates and determines necessary modification, performs complex repairs or removal of instruments or devices needing overhaul during scheduled maintenance.
  • Read, interpret and create P&IDs and E&I (wiring) diagrams
  • Experience with control panel design and construction
  • Records and reports abnormal function or out of tolerance conditions of equipment and initiates corrective action and documentation.
  • May troubleshoot/service or resolve problems while performing unscheduled work.
  • Candidate should have working knowledge of various process control systems
  • Records and reports abnormal function or out of tolerance conditions of equipment and initiates corrective action and documentation.
  • Locates part sources, estimates costs and prepares requisition.
  • Reinstalls, tests, evaluates, calibrates, and maintains instruments or devices upon completion of repairs.
  • Self-starter, manage workload of competing jobs/projects
  • Documents daily maintenance activity, repair and other work performed.
  • Communicates with customer staff the calibration, repair and operation of equipment as necessary.
  • Writes equipment, maintenance and calibration procedures.
  • Provides direction to less experienced Instrumentation/Calibration Technicians.
  • Complies with company policies and procedures and adheres to company standards.
  • Performs work in accordance with approved equipment, calibration, maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and WORK EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two-year degree, electrical or mechanical scientific field of study preferred or equivalent related work experience or NCCER Certification.
  • Five years of experience in instrumentation and control or installing, calibrating, maintaining and repairing equipment or equivalent experience.
  • Level II or Level III ISA Certification helpful.
  • Demonstrated use and understanding of physical standards of mass, temperature flow and pressure.
  • Working knowledge of computers/PLC.
  • Must be a team player committed to working in a quality environment and also work independently.
  • Strong safety record. 

PREFERRED

  • Working knowledge of various process control systems, Emerson Delta V, and Siemens PCS 7 PLC's
  • Experience specific to the chemical R&D industry including the making of chemical standards using appropriate techniques for weighing, pipe-fitting, mixing, diluting and verifying concentrations.
