Senior Program Officer, Gender Integration
Disability Solutions
Seattle, WA (Onsite)
Full-Time
The Foundation
We are the largest nonprofitfighting poverty, disease, and inequity around the world. Founded on a simple premise: people everywhere, regardless of identity or circumstances, should have the chance to live healthy, productive lives. We believe our employees should reflect the rich diversity of the global populations we aim to serve. We provide an exceptional benefits package to employees and their families which include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with no premiums, generous paid time off, paid family leave, foundation-paid retirement contribution, regional holidays, and opportunities to engage in several employee communities. As a workplace, we're committed to creating an environment for you to thrive both personally and professionally.
The Team
The Gender Equality Division's mission is to ensure women and girls in Africa and South Asia can enjoy good health, make their own choices, earn their own money, and be leaders in their societies. When women and girls have an equal chance to thrive and lead, everyone benefits. We know that women and girls are not a monolith. A woman's experience and the barriers she faces are different depending on factors like where she lives, how old she is, and how much money her family has-alongside other factors including her race, caste, and education level. We seek to address these compounding barriers through deep partnership with our grantees. As a philanthropy, our role is to listen to and learn from these experts. We take risks in new areas, prove concepts, and bring these ideas to governments, partner organizations, and private sector companies to scale. The Gender Equality Division builds off our existing strengths as a foundation in areas like global health and data, partnering closely with all of our global divisions.
The Senior Program Officer (SPO) is a member of the Gender Integration (GI) team, which aims to amplify the foundation's impact by applying an intersectional gender lens across global programs. The power of this work is by enabling others working on the foundation's global strategies to address gender-related barriers and opportunities to further programmatic impact - specifically through strategies, investments and work with partners. To this end, the GI team has three roles:
1.\tAs a service provider: bringing gender equality technical expertise to programmatic teams to identify strategic opportunities where closing gender gaps and addressing gender-related barriers can accelerate programmatic impact and mitigate unintentional consequences.
2.\tAs a change agent: partnering with operational and programmatic teams to embed gender into foundation systems and tools, drive leadership accountability, and measure progress; additionally, we translate lessons into public goods to increase adoption of leading practices with peer donors, all towards the goal of increasing and improving quality of donor capital to gender equality.
3.\tAs an investment incubator: identifying and demonstrating gender transformative programmatic proof points adjacent to program strategy teams with significant potential GE and sector impact.
Your Role
You will play a key role leading the team's service delivery function, a core aspect of gender integration in which all team members participate. As part of our service delivery, the team identifies, builds, and maintains relationships with multiple internal teams - advising on strategic ways teams can address gender-related barriers and opportunities to further programmatic impact through strategies, investments, and partners. The power of this work is through enabling others at the foundation to focus on gender within global health, development, and economic opportunity. As the lead, you will ensure optimal effectiveness of approach, excellence in delivery, and amplifying successes. You will also be responsible for implementing a key initiative to embed gender mainstreaming experts and approaches in partners, via co-investments with multiple program strategy teams across the foundation. You will provide strategic mentorship across the team and manage a Program Officer. Lastly, you will provide technical reviews as needed.
