Deputy Fire Marshal $98,327 - $102,299

Nature of Work

Under general direction of the Fire Marshal, is responsible for inspection of buildings in the Town for the purpose of eliminating fire and casualty hazards and for performing administrative work associated with this activity.

Essential Job Functions

  • Organizes and directs fire inspections to ensure compliance with codes, regulations and requirements mandated by State Statutes and local ordinances and regulations. Directs inspections by fire companies.
  • Reviews building plans for compliance with Connecticut Fire Safety Code and applicable standards.
  • Issues permits and Certificates of Approval to indoor and outdoor facilities which meet safety regulations; issues blasting permits.
  • Tests materials and substances used in building construction and decoration for flammability.
  • Investigates fires to ascertain origin, cause, damage and possible violations of the Fire Code.
  • Responsible for delivery of public education and community risk reduction programs to department members and the public.
