Superior Group is presently recruiting an AVP - Package Engineering for our client in the CPG industry located in Florham Park, NJ.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective

The AVP of Packaging Engineering will provide technical support and guidance with all package and quality related activities. This position will be responsible for managing the daily responsibilities of Engineering and Quality staff members. This position also assists in technical aspects of developing packages (3D design, engineering, modeling, etc.) working with executive management/sales as well as interacting directly with customers and factories. The ideal candidate will have extensive cosmetic industry experience, knowledge of materials used in cosmetic packaging, knowledge of the manufacturing processes used to produce cosmetic packaging, knowledge of filling processes. The candidate must be energetic, patient, willing to teach, and detail oriented with a passion for innovative solutions.
Essential Functions

  • Manage the daily activities of engineering and quality staff
  • Evaluate and initiate new projects
  • Manage the Project Management function for projects
  • Establish procedures and standards
  • Lead training sessions inter-departmentally
  • Aid in training/developing engineers and quality personnel
  • Identify viable packaging options and alternatives
  • Define and engineer technical conceptions according to company and customer standards
  • Optimize and harmonize technical conceptions
  • Ownership of existing and future technical conceptions; inclusive but not limited to data, consumer complaints, support of quality issues, etc.
  • Assess and resolve packaging design problems on existing items.
  • Manage multiple projects to meet established timelines.
  • Management of new tooling development and validation
  • Communicate with overseas factories
  • Analyze and approve technical drawings through tolerance and stack up evaluations on critical assemblies
  • Evaluate risks and develop clear mitigation plans
  • Fully own technical milestones in project timelines; ensuring on-time product delivery.
  • Define appropriate testing plan and analyze / interpret results
  • Troubleshoot technical issues (supplier, plant, distribution, quality, etc.)
  • Tailor communication based on audience; share and escalate roadblocks cross-functionally
  • Develop and maintain a professional knowledge of new or emerging trends in packaging technology, inclusive but not limited to personal care products
  • Up to 10% travel to customers, suppliers and plants
  • Maintain key performance indicators related to the function
  • Job Requirements

    Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • BS in Package Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related science field.
  • 10 years minimum experience in Package Engineering (plastics) with experience designing, developing, and envisioning cosmetics/consumer goods
  • 10 years current Solidworks experience
  • 5 years management experience (both projects and people)
