The REN-ISAC is an integral part of US higher education's strategy to improve cybersecurity through information sharing and analysis. REN-ISAC engages trusted representatives of our ~640 member institutions into a coalition protecting the sector, inter-relates our sector with trusted partners (private, commercial and governmental), and responds to threats and events within the sector. Job Summary

The Lead Security Software Engineer (LSSE) is responsible for systems analysis and programming related to development and support of products, services, and tools of the Research and Education Networks - Information Sharing and Analysis Center (REN-ISAC). The LSSE owns full projects or complex areas of multi-faceted projects while performing analysis, programming, troubleshooting, bug-fixing, tuning, data conversions, testing, documentation, and software support for applications and services. The LSSE collaborates with REN-ISAC staff, members, and teams within the IU central information technology organization, and with external third parties. Success is demonstrated through initiative, creativity, innovation, and collaboration in the development of stable, maintainable, and efficient software ensuring that REN-ISAC services are executed at the highest standards.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Systems, or a related discipline and three years of professional experience in a combination of cybersecurity operations and development of software solutions.

Combinations of education and related experience may be considered.

Experience as a systems analyst and programmer developing and operating complex software / database systems using Ruby / Rails, Python, Perl, JavaScript, CSS, and / or HTML. Experience with code development best practices including agile methodology, test-driven development, code repository / version control, continuous integration, and testing and deployment frameworks. Experience deploying and managing systems in cloud virtualization environments. Demonstrated proficiency with software programming including data structures, algorithms, databases and development practices. Experience in LINUX use, administration, customization, and security fundamentals. Experience working with SQL databases (MySQL/Postgres/Sqlite). Demonstrated leadership skills. Ability to lead projects and / or project teams. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a customer service orientation and ability to work with a variety of people with varying degrees of understanding and authority. Solid organizational and project management skills, including ability to clearly and effectively document areas of responsibility. High levels of accuracy, problem-solving, dependability, and responsibility. Proven ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic and complex environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience leading the design, development, and operation of software solutions including requirements, design, information architecture, implementation, and deployment. Experience with ElasticSearch. Knowledge of cybersecurity operations such as logging, monitoring, intrusion detection, analysis, mitigation, and incident response. Familiarity with network fundamentals including IP protocols, engineering (routing, netflow, firewalls, ACLs), and network applications (DNS, SMTP, HTTPS, SSL/SSH, NTP, &c). Experience using software provisioning, configuration management, and application-deployment tools.

Work Location

Bloomington, Indiana

Remote work will be considered based on the candidate's experience and qualifications. Remote workers are required to attend biannual week-long all staff gatherings.
