Job Summary
Navigation Engineer - GPS/Sensor Fusion - Electronics/Contract Manufacturing - Secure Technologies Company, a division of Benchmark Electronics in Santa Ana, CA and Phoenix AZ You will provide technical leadership of electronic hardware design strategies and development of OEM customer products in military and commercial applications for personal and vehicle navigation; GPS denied environment solutions. You will work with cutting edge technology developing Sensor fusion algorithms/architecture. We are seeking someone with a creative personality, strong communication and teamwork attributes, strong analytics and high energy. US Citizenship required; No Visa sponsorship is available. Job Summary: Incumbent will be responsible for the coordination and technical leadership of electronic hardware strategies and the electrical design and development of customer products. Provide Engineering design services with innovation in the area of personal and vehicle Navigation.


Essential Functions and Competencies

• Available for travel up to 5% of the time, including day and overnight travel as required

• Knowledgeable in various advanced technologies, i.e. Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Design, Single Board Computer/peripheral design considerations, power supply design, Radio Frequency (RF) design, etc.
• Intermediate understanding of software programming techniques
• Require general supervision for completion of tasks
• Available for travel up to 10-20% of the time, including day, overnight and international travel, as required.


Qualifications / Education / Experience

Design and document electronic hardware for customer products and related electronics, with management direction, to meet both the customers’ requirements and manufacturing requirements
• Provide assistance to the Mechanical Design, PCB Design, Functional Test and ICT test for product, test and tooling development
• Perform evaluation of quality measurements on electronic designs in accordance with a verification plan
• Create documentation related to an electronic design project
• Contact and work with hardware, software and equipment vendors
• Follow project plan; Report project status to leadership
• Assist in the coordination of electronic hardware engineering strategies for customers
• Assist in project proposals and associated cost estimates
• Participate in the development of advanced/new technologies
• Participate in research and development for new design methods and tools
• Assist with Design for Excellence (DFX) reviews and create necessary documentation
• Develop an understanding of DFX philosophy and promote with customers
• With management guidance, work with customers to understand requirements regarding a product design
• Communicate with customer technical personnel regarding technical issues
• Work with Sustaining Engineering (product, process, test and quality) to develop products that leverage manufacturing and test processes
• Communicate technical challenges and work with peers to create and implement solutions
• Participate in a continuous improvement activity with complete documentation, including a follow up review with the team in a presentation format
• Design and document electronic hardware for customer products, and related electronics, to meet both the customers’ requirements and internal manufacturing requirements
• Provide assistance and interact with Mechanical Design, PCB Design, Functional Test and In-Circuit Test for product, test and tooling development
• Develop and follow project plan; Gather status and report project status to leadership and the customer
• Provide sub-project level or full smaller scale project leadership and organization, as required, for multiple concurrent projects, mentoring and training for engineers
• Deploy processes and systems within the workgroup
• Develop project proposals and associate cost estimates
• Work with internal manufacturing support groups to understand the requirements of the production environment
• Work with customers to understand customer requirements regarding a product design
• Provide research and development for new design methods and tools under management guidance
• Participate in identification and development of advanced/new technologies
• Drive design/development related business discussions on internal customer team(s)
• Perform portions of and lead Design for Excellence (DFX) efforts; Create necessary documentation
• Communicate technical challenges and implement solutions where possible and as required
• Lead or participate in a continuous improvement activity with complete documentation, including a follow up review with the team in a presentation format
• Focus on specific hardware design technologies, electronic hardware design and documentation for customer products using standard methods and tools to provide products that are manufacturable and meet both the customers’ requirements and the Benchmark manufacturing support groups’ requirements
• Provide technical leadership to Mechanical Design, Printed Circuit Board Design, Functional Test, and In- Circuit Test for product, test, and tooling development
• Provide project level leadership and organization, as required, for multiple concurrent projects; Provide project leadership and training for engineers
• Perform Design for Excellence (DFX) reviews; Create necessary documentation
• Drive electronic hardware design strategy development discussions on customer team(s)
• Lead the identification and development of advanced/new technologies
• Provide research and development for new methods for product design and the utilization of software and hardware tools
• Recognized as senior expert for technical problem-solving beyond use of typical methods
• Develop and deploy processes and systems within the workgroup
• Investigate new technologies and implement a plan to infuse new technologies as design solutions. Specific Responsibilities:
• Use expertise to provide Navigation design capability to select projects within the company and with customers
• GPS denied environment solution sets
• Work with the team to fuse data from several sources to provide for accurate Navigation for vehicles and people
• Identify Sensor modules that assist in the overall Navigation capabilities and fuse that data together for accurate Navigation
• Identify novel Navigation solutions from Academic environments and other small businesses. Focus would be on TRL level 4-6 solutions that can be integrated for our customer solutions

• 8+ years of experience in electronics manufacturing, developing electronic hardware and software; 1+ years in a leadership role
• IE experience desired
• Previous security clearance is a plus.
• US Citizenship is required - this position supports sensitive Federal / Government contracts / programs.
• Must have fluent / effective verbal / written English language skills.

• MSEE minimum requirement - PhD candidate preferred
