Kleinfelders Denver Office is currently hiring a Senior Substation Physical Engineer.

This person will be considered the physical design technical expert for the substation department. They will work independently to ensure the proper execution of substation physical project design. These substation physical design projects may range from existing substation retrofits to brand new green-field substations. They will be required to apply good judgement and all necessary codes and standards for successful project execution. This person will report directly to the substation electrical department manager.

Job Duties:
  • Determine the necessary deliverables for each project such as cable/conduit routing plans, equipment specifications, construction details, grounding design, lightning protection design, substation layout, BOM's, etc. for voltages from 13KV - 500KV.
  • Work directly with subcontractors, substation packagers and equipment manufacturers, when required. Candidate will also interface with the client on technical issues.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of analysis and calculation methods.
  • Assist in determining the scope, schedule and budget for proposed projects.
  • Attend site visits to determine project feasibility and challenges.
  • Respond to client RFIs in a timely manner.
  • Mentor junior engineers, ensuring their progression in the field.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • BSEE from ABET accredited college/university. Master's Degree preferred.
  • PE License.
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Proficient in grounding software such as CDEGS and WinIGS.
  • Familiar with the NEC and NESC
  • Experience in supervising other engineers is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite.
