Job Description

Performs maintenance and operational practices on boilers, chillers,air compressors, vacuum pumps and other associated equipment. Ensures that the safety of the equipment, employees and the plant is maintained.

Required Skills And Education
  1. Operates and adjusts boilers and associated equipment by monitoring gauges, meters, recording devices, listening for abnormal sounds and noticing unusual conditions in order to maintain proper pressures, temperatures and fuel/steam efficiencies.
  2. Performs analysis on boiler water, chilled water, condenser water, closed loops, glycol systems etc. and adjusts chemical feed rates to assure compliance with established parameters. Prepares daily written logs on analysis results. Works with outside water treatment contractor, to conserve energy, maximize efficient operations and extend equipment life.
  3. Diagnoses problems with and repair's fuel, feedwater, and condensate pumps, check valves, safety valves and pressure reducing stations, chilled water pumps, condenser water pumps, air compressors, vacuum pumps, etc. as required.
  4. Works from prints, sketches, diagrams, handbooks, and manufacturer's data to analyze, diagnose, adjust, repair and maintain equipment and to ensure the most efficient operating conditions.
  5. Performs preventive maintenance such as cleaning, painting and lubricating equipment by following established procedures. Maintains boiler rooms and all associated rooms to world class condition.
  6. Performs annual maintenance on steam boilers in order to ensure that they are ready for State Inspection.
  7. Checks plant air compressor daily for lubrication, abnormal heat, sounds or operating parameters.
  8. Performs annual replacement of valves and other maintenance on plant air compressor.
  9. Monitors fuel oils and ignition gas levels daily, when replenishment is necessary.
  10. Monitors for oil spillage, smoke emissions and related environmental hazards. Takes necessary corrective action when warranted.
  11. May be required to participate on special teams including but not limited to snow removal, emergency response and must be responsive to off-hour emergencies.
  12. May be required to clean and service equipment that may contain hazardous substances and to participate in the sorting and accumulation of hazardous waste materials in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations.
  13. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
