Job Description

Under close supervision, employee maintains orderly environment during assigned shift by conducting standard operating procedures in accordance with facility policies/procedures and required Department of Corrections’ contractual obligations. Daily schedules are followed and employee serves as role model for residents and subordinates.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assigns duties to monitor staff;
  • Reports resident and staff accidents or injuries to supervisor;
  • Performs scheduled resident headcounts and completes written count reports;
  • Counts and monitors narcotic medications in locked cabinet;
  • Reports all incidents to supervisor; written documentation as required;
  • Collects urine samples for random and routine substance abuse screenings of residents and staff as required;
  • When assigned, transports residents by company vehicle to out-of-facility appointments;
  • Conducts fire drills on assigned shift;
  • Inspects chores and facility; reports issues to supervisor/maintenance as needed;
  • As needed, rotates to assigned security desks and monitors metal detectors and security cameras to maintain safe and secure orderly environment for residents;
  • Enforces the facility rules of conduct with the residents;
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Occasional overtime is required for this position.
  • Undergraduate or Associates Degree preferred. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience in criminal justice or counseling field.  Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Serves as a model for resident behavior; good interpersonal skills.
  • Required skills include:  time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
