Critical Facilities Traveling Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing Engineer

Manage, evaluate and assess information related to MEP systems necessary to construct the project on time, within budget and to the quality specified by the contract documents.
Has supervisory responsibility for Assistant Engineers, Engineering Assistants, and Interns.
The MEP Engineer is the individual on the project responsible for building the MEP systems on paper.
Reports to: MEP Manager, Project Engineer, Project Manager, Project Executive -- Specifically relating to the mechanical and/or electrical systems (e.g. HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Low Voltage, Fire Sprinkler)
Acting as liaison with engineers, design consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, other Turner job staff and owners representatives in resolving issues related to plans and specifications.
Overseeing and making decisions related to contract drawings and subcontract information. Ensuring that all drawings and specifications properly relate to the estimate. Ensure strict adherence to safety, ethics and compliance requirements at all times.
Preparing contract item list for all components of the systems. Managing submittals and shop drawings. Assessing conformance to contract specifications to ensure QA/QC requirements are met. Resolving any conflicts in interpretation. Negotiating change orders while maintaining budget.
Managing information on changes in the work; preparing an independent analysis, as required; obtaining and checking estimates for the changes from subcontractor; obtaining approval of the architect and owner; and resolving any conflicts.
Overseeing the close-out process. Preparing final records for the project such as RFI's, close-out records, warranties, as-builts, operation and maintenance manuals, attic stock, and spare parts, and evaluating information to insure compliance with contract documents.
Supervising Assistant Engineers, Engineering Assistants, and Interns, including providing input on performance appraisals.
Preparing scope of work documents for trades.
Scheduling and managing subcontractor trade coordination meetings, preconstruction meetings and submittal review meetings. Participating in preconstruction activities. Establishing and maintaining document control procedures.
Leading the coordination effort for all mechanical and electrical systems, equipment and piping layouts for all trades on a master coordination set of drawings and 3D model, securing the approval of the architects and engineers.
Ensuring that materials and equipment are delivered as required by utilizing a tracking solution to monitor status and to maintain project schedule of these items post submittal approval until they arrive on site.
Working with the Superintendent-MEP, managing project startup, commissioning, turnover instruction, punchlist, closeout, securing all guarantees, warranties required for acceptance and handover of all the systems.
Working closely with Turner Logistics on TCCo provided equipment.
Working with VDC engineer on clash detection and 4D scheduling of MEP systems.
Understanding MEP design parameters and systems to evaluate their appropriateness for each project.
Assist as needed on other TCCo projects to provide MEP expertise / support on an as-needed basis
Advocate for MEP subontractors and clients/ MEP engineers.
Lead deferred submittal process with AHJs & design team
Provide BU training and staff development as it relates to MEP systems
Bachelor's degree and at least six years of formal engineering or architectural experience and a minimum of four years of mechanical/electrical/plumbing construction experience required, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Data Center/Telecom Facilities knowledge is strongly desirable.
Knowledge of estimating, construction costs, scheduling, purchasing, and engineering principals and techniques, of all general contract and subcontract documents, drawings and specifications. Specific knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical Systems.
Thorough knowledge of building information modeling and its use in coordination of the Mechanical and Electrical systems and other project systems. Proven written and verbal communication abilities; proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite. Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
