The Certified Occupational Therapist – Home Health is responsible for modeling the 3 Company values of Compassion, Integrity, and Excellence, and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the Program, between the Program and other Company departments, and between the Program and all external stakeholders. The Occupational Therapy Assistant – Home Health provides rehabilitative services to patients with mental, emotional, physical, or developmental impairments. Assists patients with rehabilitative exercises and activities outlined in a treatment plan by an occupational therapist. May help patients learn how to feed and dress themselves, compensate for lost motor skills, or achieve a more independent lifestyle.

Position Specific Responsibilities
- Provides patient treatments which meet patient needs and uses current treatment knowledge in accordance with location procedures. This includes but is not limited to:
- Providing comprehensive, appropriate patient treatment in accordance with patient’s individual treatment plan as stipulated by supervising OTR.
- Providing clear instruction to patients and families.
- Communicating with supervisor and other health team members regarding patient progress, problems, and plans.
- Instructing patients’ families or nursing staff in specified follow through programs.
- Demonstrating knowledge of appropriate resources for problem-solving and clinical best practice.
- Writes accurate, complete, and clear documentation that follow regulatory, licensing, payor and accrediting requirements. This includes but is not limited to:
- Recording Patient Needs Reviews, daily treatment notes, and progress notes.
- Recording treatment charges accurately and insuring that documentation is consistent with billing data.
- Writing specific, objective documentation that is outcome oriented and details the patient’s needs, potential to benefit from treatment, and progress achieved to date. Includes specific, objective measurable goals.
- Managing Medicare Medical Review and Denials process.
- Acquiring and documenting consents/approvals for treatment when necessary.
- Consistently demonstrates an interdisciplinary approach to patient care. This includes but is not limited to:
- Integrating findings of other members of the interdisciplinary team in treatment assessment and recommendations.
- Integrating input from patient and family in treatment assessment and recommendations.
- Preparing for and providing meaningful contributions to the rehab team conferences, patient care conferences, utilization review meetings, family conferences, and caregiver training sessions.
- Collaborating with and informing facility staff in areas of patient progress.
- Educating members of the team in areas of expertise.
- Working with facility to teach documentation practices which assist the therapy team.
- Communicating effectively with discharge planners.
- Contributes to professional development of self and others. This includes but is not limited to:
- Utilizing continuing education to achieve targeted quality improvements.
- Interacting with peer therapist at local acute hospitals and other environments, if appropriate.
- Presenting at weekly rehab team conferences, facility in-services, and professional conferences.
- Maintaining a current body of knowledge in areas of clinical expertise through seminars, professional journals, and peers.
- Meeting continuing education requirements of regulatory agencies.
- Demonstrates safe working practices. This includes but is not limited to:
- Identifying and correcting safety hazards or notifying the agency or the Director of Therapy so that safety hazards will be immediately remedied.
- Maintaining work areas in safe and orderly fashion.
- Maintaining equipment in safe working order by facilitation annual calibration.
- Using proper body mechanics during treatments of patients and during support activities.
- Using universal safety precautions.
- Wearing appropriate protective equipment.
- Assists with maintenance of patient charges and administrative support. This includes but is not limited to:
- Completing charges accurately on Productivity and Activities Log daily.
- Assisting therapists with scheduling patient services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience
An Associate Degree from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy. Minimum of one-year experience under qualified supervision- preferably in a program emphasizing home health.
Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
Current Occupational Therapy Assistant State Licensure as required and current CPR certification. A valid driver's license and auto liability insurance.
Other Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of occupational therapy principles, standards and applications. Understanding the principles of physical modalities employed in Occupational Therapy. Knowledge of use of prosthetic devices, ambulatory aides, assistive and resistive devices, and training. Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to work with all types and levels of patients.
