Job Description

The Manager is responsible for ensuring that the Youth Workforce Training Center (YWTC) carries out its mission of training and educating D&M foster, transitional age and Joan Macy School youth to become self-sufficient adults. The YWTC Manager is responsible for training staff in D&M's mission while coordinating donation acquisitions, wholesale transactions, coordinating receipts, weights, warehouse, inventory, display, pricing, retail sale, and customer service for the YWTC. The Manager must have experience in contacting prospects and donors by phone, email, or correspondence, and knowledge of retailing and wholesaling operations with respect to the sale of donated goods as a means of generating revenue. The Manager will oversee the Café management to ensure viability of café operations.

Essential Functions:

  1. Identify, acquire, and maintain store donor database
  2. Ensure store and café are meeting mission expectations of providing training for agency interns
  3. Interface with Employment Coach and ensure interns are placed in internships as expected and provided positive coaching by employees
  4. Work with Development Director to train staff in soliciting donations and ensure that donations and contacts are appropriately tracked
  5. Work with Resource Developers to ensure ongoing outreach and tracking of current and new donors
  6. Work with store supervisor on surplus and wholesale merchandise transactions
  7. Collaborate with the purchasing/Developers team members to oversee the supply chain of goods from supplier, transportation to the store, storage and stocking, and sale to the customer
  8. Manage product inventory to forecast where shortages and overstock may be and adjust accordingly
  9. Understand product and selling trends to strategically initiate sale or discount pricing on select items
  10. Ensure all equipment is operating properly, i.e. refrigerators, freezers, cash registers, café equipment, lighting
  11. Address emergencies and issues with a sense of urgency to ensure the smooth operation and customer experience in the store
  12. Conduct store/cafe tours to evaluate store conditions and adjust accordingly
  13. Oversee general office activity, store, and warehouse
  14. Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility:

Is responsible for supervising the following staff: Café Manager, Store Supervisor, Warehouse Supervisor, and YWTC Development Associates. Responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring and training these staff; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising and documenting performance; rewarding and disciplining staff; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.



Bachelor's degree preferred. Must have a valid California driver's license and good driving record.

At least four years' experience in a retail management position or non-profit development environment preferred. Experience should include all facets of operation such as donor relations, knowledge of 501(c)(3), tax-exempt procedures as they pertain to solicitation and documentation of transactions.

Job Requirements
