SMV Recruiting, LLC has an outstanding craft brewery in Asheville, NC who is looking for a Marketing Director. This person must have expert knowledge and navigation of the brewery/distributor relationship, brand building and hospitality. The Marketing Director is responsible for masterful coordination of a dizzying array of efforts, and the leadership and development of team members. Our client wants to be the must-drink beer in the southeast and the must-visit brewery in Asheville and they are very hopeful this person will help make this goal a reality! Responsibilities

  • Own the vision, strategy, budget and execution for all marketing initiatives
  • Be a strategic partner with the sales team and connect/aligns marketing and sales goal, initiatives and strategies
  • Lead the Marketing team and oversees PR, trade/sponsorship, community engagement, all media channels, manage all marketing related vendor relationships, merchandise and design/packaging
  • Proactively pursues new marketing approaches, items and strategies
  • Develop and executes annual marketing plan and budget
  • Build awareness, create an image of difference, gain media coverage and build brand loyalty on four levels: internal staff, distributor network, media contacts, and consumers
  • Provide quarterly marketing reports on impact, spending, and value
  • Ensure brand standards are met
  • Find data to enhance brand relevance (Nielsen studies, market research, etc.)
  • Identifies and assesses market trends and collaborate with sales on proactive approaches
  • Position marketing and sales to earn top-of-mind status at media, retail, and wholesale levels
  • Oversees creation and organization of all sales tools, POS, print and digital assets
  • Leads new product launches across distribution footprint, in tandem with sales team plans
  • Develops special sales programming as needed
  • Occasional travel with sales team and distributors to all sales channels
  • Aligns the onsite experience with the brand – consistently excellent, lively, enthusiastic, authentic, forward-thinking
  • Supports hospitality team to ensure the Taproom is the best marketing tool– from tour, to merchandise, to presentation of space, brand personality and BEER
  • Collaborates with hospitality leadership team to assess and evaluate proposed events and partnerships
  • Collaboratively strategizes long range beer planning (beer products, packaging, pricing, distribution and promotion) across departments
  • Fosters a culture of collaboration within the marketing team and interdepartmentally
  • Leads collaboration with all company departments to create and execute strong marketing programs for brand management, public relations, media communications, event marketing, merchandise, and advertising

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field required (Master’s degree preferred)
  • 3+ years in the craft brewing industry or related craft industry
  • Firm understanding of the 3 tier system and 2+ years with wholesalers in the beer industry
  • 2+ years as Marketing Director or similar
  • 10+ years marketing experience, preferably with demonstrated progressive responsibility
  • 2+ years social media strategy
  • Previous experience working in sales/as a distributor is strongly desired
  • Positions marketing as a critical contributor to companies’ success
  • Exceptional knowledge of marketing strategies, concepts and practices
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Exceptional ability to prioritize, manage and delegate
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
