Job Description

CNC Technician 1st & 2nd shifts

If you offer CNC Programming and set-up skills, you may be interested in this CNC Technician job in Elkhart, IN. First shift runs from 6:00am-2:30 pm EST, and 2nd shift is 2:00pm-10:00pm EST.

What will you be doing?

  • Set-up, program and operate CNC lathes or robots with a manufacturing cell to produce quality parts
  • Update CNC lathe programs when new products or parts are added
  • Meet production schedule of parts using a CNC lathe or robot
  • Analyze job order and perform necessary calculations
  • Write code to automate power driven lathe machines that cut metal
  • Create instructions for operators, make calculations for programming that includes where materials should be cut
  • Check completed programs by running simulations or tests
  • Record all incidences that cause down time
  • Perform 5S duties as required
  • Provides training for members of team, as new hires and to develop existing employees
  • Organize and inventory tooling for the cell
  • Comply with all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and tag-out procedures
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area
  • Fill coolant tanks and change out buffs and bobs per instructions
  • Move product to the crest ultrasonic cleaner and run parts through it, or move product to Ramco lathe machine
  • Other duties, as assigned

What do you need for this position?

  • High School Diploma is a minimum education requirement, technical schooling certification is preferred
  • Knowledge of electronics and machine tools
  • Experience with CNC programming
  • Ability to operate, set up, and program CNC lathes
  • Ability to use micrometers, pin gauges, calipers, rim cast, PLC
  • Excellent reading comprehension skills along with good math skills that preferably include algebra, trigonometry, and physics
  • Ability to follow and adhere to safety guidelines for each job assignment
  • Good problem solving skills, excellent time management skills, and good planning skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as excellent listening skills
  • Mechanically inclined, with knowledge of metal shop work being preferred
  • Detail-oriented, able to work effectively with little or no supervision
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Open-minded to continuing education to learn new techniques as needed
  • Regular attendance
  • Ability to work with complex spreadsheets

What is demanded physically?

  • The ability to lift a maximum of 35 lbs. unassisted; occasional lifting over 35 lbs. with assistance
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Frequent bending/stooping, squatting/crouching, reaching
  • Occasional pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping
  • Exposure to noise and oils
  • Ability to work alone, make judgments, perform repetitive work, perform under stress, and attain tolerance to set standards
