What are we looking for in a Youth Advocate?

This position works on our Aspen Victim Advocacy team to provide direct advocacy services to children and their families who are victims of sexual assault and other crimes. Youth Advocates assist clients by providing information, support, and referrals while being sensitive and respectful. Due to the nature of this position, excellent listening & communication skills and a collaborative attitude are a must. This position will mostly have a Monday-Friday day shift schedule, but will also participate in the rotation for on-call crisis coverage.


Youth Advocate duties may include:

  • providing education and training about the Aspen program to community members and agencies
  • facilitating support groups and providing advocacy-based counseling to youth clients and their families
  • assisting clients through criminal justice system by providing help with forms, procedures, transportation and support during court appearances
  • coordinating with community institutions that may be involved in child sexual abuse cases or other cases involving crimes against children, including law enforcement, prosecutors, victim witness assistants, child protective services, DSHS, and schools
  • providing on-call coverage after hours for the advocacy/crisis program as needed
  • providing community-based advocacy within the various entities involved with crimes against children
  • maintaining accurate documentation and data collection 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social services or related field
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
