Job Description

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is a nonprofit organization that directs a range of domestic and international ministries. From its headquarters in Charlotte, N.C., the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association directs a wide range of domestic and international ministries, including: large-scale festivals led by evangelists Franklin Graham and Will Graham; The Billy Graham Library; The Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove, located outside of Asheville, N.C.; SearchforJesus.net, an Internet evangelism project reaching thousands of people for Christ online; and many others through print, television, telephone, radio and the Internet.

OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY

As an integral part of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, the Senior Programmer/Analyst develops logical procedures for computer systems, performs application program design, development, and maintenance, and maintains current written systems and database specifications for program procedures for electronic data processing.

MINISTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Maintains a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
  • Faithfully upholds BGEA in prayer.
  • Participates in daily BGEA staff devotions as schedule permits.
  • Demonstrates behavior aligned with BGEA’s Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, Hallmarks, policies, and expectations.
  • Sets positive example of service and integrity at all times.
  • Effectively represents Jesus Christ to those within both personal and professional spheres of influence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs business analysis, application design, and programming
  • Serves as technical consultant to business
  • Manages interdepartmental and interoffice projects, and facilitates joint meetings, directs junior staff and third-party contractors, develops and oversees schedules, commitment dates, and management reporting
  • Maintains expert knowledge of multiple application systems
  • Serves as adviser to IT management regarding technical direction
  • Creates, modifies, updates, and maintains programs as needed
  • Creates and supports automated interfaces between systems
  • Establishes procedures for solutions to problems
  • Creates and maintains documentation for systems
  • Tests and debugs programs
  • Investigates and determines causes of computer program malfunctions and implements corrective actions

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Writes computer systems requirements and specifications
  • Documents computer programs and file layouts
  • Implements new systems
  • Supports systems users and provides training when needed
  • Provides cost analysis of implementing new systems
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to Application Development Manager
  • Has no supervisory responsibilities

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Minimum of high school diploma and three (3) years’ directly related experience, or degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Substantial experience required in all the following required: Visual Studio 6 (Visual Basic and Classic ASP), Visual Studio 2008/2010 (Visual Basic, C#, Windows Presentation Foundation [WPF], and ASP.NET), and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SQL Server Reporting Services [SRRS], SQL Server Integration Services [SSIS], and T-SQL
  • Working Knowledge of DevOps tools such as Jenkins and Docker preferred
  • Knowledge of accounting and accounting principles preferred
  • Competence in all technical phases of application programming
  • Good verbal communications skills
  • Experience with personal computer hardware, software, and applications
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently with self-motivation
  • Ability to make fair, sound decisions
  • Flexibility
  • Ability to listen and resolve problems
  • Ability to learn new programming languages
  • Ability to handle details and to bring tasks to closure

  • Ability to work extended daily, weekly, and weekend hours is sometime required

BENEFITS

  • Employees filling regular full-time positions, who are working no less than 40 hours per week, are eligible to participate in BGEA’s benefits program.
