QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. New York State Registered Nurse License

  2. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities

  3. Valid driver’s license

 

REPORTS TO:               Director of Residential Nursing

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain accurate and up-to-date health files on all residents. 

  2. Assume responsibility for order and maintenance of the health record keeping system and take part in prescribed record keeping techniques.

  3. Provide notices in the resident’s records of any physical, medical or other restrictions as well as provide training to direct support professionals on these restrictions.

  4. Schedule and coordinate dental, medical and pharmaceutical services as needed.

  5. Coordinate with clinical staff and direct support professionals in monitoring the general health and safety standards of the residents.

  6. Provide nursing assessment and care to residents and perform other nursing duties as assigned.

  7. Administer medically prescribed medications and maintain medical cabinet with all approved medications, supplies and equipment.

  8. Assist and consult with medical providers on the health care recommendations for the residents.

  9. Provide nursing supervision and in-service training sessions for direct support professionals in carrying out specific nursing functions.

  10. Active participant of interdisciplinary treatment team.

  11. Certify direct support professionals in medication administration procedures after successful competition of the approved OPWDD AMAP course. Re-certify annually, the approved AMAP staff.

  12. Provide training in OPWDD approved classes in AMAP and Choking. Prepare and provide in-service for medical trainings as needed based on the medical needs of the residents. (E.g. Epi-pen, diabetes, Seizures). Provide annual required trainings (e.g. Infection Control).

  13. Maintain Eden II’s policy and procedures related to TB, Seizures, Communicable Diseases, Influenza, Respiratory Protection and OPWDD regulations.

  14. Ensure that all medical records and medication administration records are in accordance with applicable regulations and general safe practices.

  15. Update and maintain records for all direct support professionals that are AMAP approved.

  16. Provide oversight of Direct Support Professionals in the areas of health and medication administration.

  17. Maintain 24 hour on-call availability to assess concerns related to resident’s health.

  18. Triage health concerns of the residents and refer for care as determined by established triage protocols.

  19. Complete and update required OPWDD nursing trainings (e.g. Telephone Triage, Diabetes, and Orientation to OPWDD Nursing).

 


*Driving/transportation of consumers is a potential of the above position.  However, you are not permitted to drive for Eden II/Genesis unless you have been provided with a written authorization from the Human Resources Department.
