1. Day-to-Day Job Responsibilities: Neuro and stroke patients. Lumbar drains,
2. Must Haves: BLS, Active RN unencumbered license.
3. Plusses : 1+ years of inpatient hospital experience, Neuro or Cardiac experience, NIHSS, ACLS/.
4. Number of beds: 25 beds. Census runs between 17-25 patients.
5. Other clinicians on staff: PCA’S, ancillary staff, has PRN RN’s as well.
6. Patient population: Brain, back and neck surgeries. A lot of stroke patients. One hallway is stepdown the other is more of a Med/Surg population.
7. Nurse to patient ratio: 1:4-5 – can get up to 1:7 on night shift.
8. 9. Are there any opportunities for growth? Charge RN, committees, unit-based council is rolling out in January (one of the PRN nurses will oversee this committee)
10. Orientation/Training and Reporting details? New Grad: 10-12 weeks Experienced RN: 8weeks. Night shift will orient on day shift.
11. What type of personality works well in this department ? This is a challenging unit; RN needs the ability to function in a very fast paced environment and values teamwork. Not afraid to ask questions.
12. Selling points of the unit: Teamwork is important on the unit and everyone gets along very well. Lettie is on the floor most of the time helping everyone. There is a lot of support on the unit and is a great learning experience unit for newer nurses.
