Director Of Engineering

JDS Consulting & Design is seeking a Licensed Professional Engineer or Geologist to work as the Director of our Construction Materials Testing Department in the Raleigh, NC office. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience. He/she should be experienced in residential, commercial, industrial, and roadway land development and land planning. The Director will work with the JDS leadership to staff and to ensure that the team conforms to the commitments JDS has made to the client, and that the project is completed within the estbalished specifications, schedule and budget.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Oversee and implement engineering standards, policies, safety standards and training for the current and future CMT Department staff.

  • Oversee, interpret and approve data collection, reporting and presentation of CMT and soil investigation projects for developments, vertical construction and roadways. 

  • Prepare and manage scope and proposals for new work including project schedules and financial forecasts.

  • Develop existing CMT lab and new avenues of revenue for public and private sector testing and inspection work.

  • Manage all administrative tasks including but not limited to turning in weekly billing, equipment needs for the field, vehicle maintenance, and employee certifications

  • Provide escalation support for engineering services and departmental issues

  • Review and approve daily deliverables

  • Regular audits and QC of work performed

  • Ensure overall customer satisfaction

  • Maintain and manage departmental budget

  • Oversee department staffing, reviews and bonuses

  • Interpret data, prepare technical reports, and communicate report findings to client and/or regulatory staff as needed.


Qualifications:

  • Must be a licensed Engineer or Geologist

  • Strong ability to communicate in a professional manner

  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
