Insurance Placement Solutions has an immediate opening for a Director of Human Resources with our client in the Chicago, IL area.
The Director of Human Resources reports to the Vice President of Administrative Services, and is responsible for managing a team of 7-10 Human Resources and Payroll employees. This position will be responsible for leading, developing, implementing and integrating the company’s human resource programs to support the continued growth and success of client company. Areas of leadership include organizational development, compensation and benefits, talent acquisition and management, labor relations and regulations, and human resources technology.
Responsibilities
· Provide centralized direction in regards to employee and labor relations, recruitment and selection practices, onboarding, succession planning, benefits and leave of absence administration, management of workers compensation claims and performance management
· Provide guidance, mentorship, and leadership as well as facilitating the professional development of the Human Resources and Payroll teams
· Provide counsel to employees and management on employment issues as needed
· Oversee investigations, provide guidance on performance conduct matters, help resolve disputes and interpret company policies
· Participate in union contract negotiations
· Lead the talent acquisition function to develop, drive, and execute strategic and inclusive talent acquisition plans designed to hire a broad range of candidates. Efforts include campus recruitment, internship programs, development of talent pools and pipelines of candidates
· Refine and oversee existing performance management tools, processes, policies and procedures
· Provide counsel to fellow managers while ensuring compliance with local labor regulations and best practices
· Recommend and manage compensation and benefits programs. Assure compensation and benefit plans are properly administered and reviewed regularly to attract and retain top talent
· Implement succession planning, training and development programs
· Monitors and ensures client's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance
· Coordinate completion of all state and federal governmental reporting requirements
· Guide the design, implementation and testing of HR and payroll technologies to achieve improvements in established goals
· Partner with the leadership team to assess and determine the company’s strategy for employee development, assessment, retention, including facilitating corporate performance reviews
· Oversee tracking of workers’ comp claims management and maintenance of supporting files
· Continuously develop and manage corporate safety strategies in conjunction with appropriate senior managers
· Oversee management of unemployment claims and hearings
· Performs other duties as required
Requirements Specific Qualifications (items are required unless otherwise noted)
· A bachelor’s degree is required, and an advanced degree in relevant disciplines or HR related certifications (SPHR) is preferred.
· A minimum of 10+ years of experience demonstrating technical competence in multiple disciplines (organizational development, compensation, benefits, training, recruitment & selection, workforce planning, performance management, compliance, employee relations, etc.) is necessary
· Experience working with labor unions is a plus
· Working knowledge of enterprise level HR and Payroll systems. ADP Payforce and Kenexa Talent Suite is preferred but other system provider knowledge is acceptable
· Experience implementing policies, procedures and technologies from discovery through implementation and go-live
· A broad business perspective and well-rounded business acumen in order to participate in strategic planning, senior-level decision making and problem solving activities
· Deep understanding of Benefits related laws and regulations including FMLA, HIPAA, ERISA and ACA.
· Outstanding interpersonal skills. An extroverted team player who projects an open and trustworthy communication style with all constituencies
· Unquestioned integrity, ethics, and the values appropriate to a senior leader of the company
· Strong leadership and influencing skills with an ability to establish credibility as a business partner with company leadership and be viewed as a trusted resource for employees
· Well established counseling and interpersonal skills with an open, clear and collaborative approach to integrate policies and procedures
· Resourceful, innovative, and progressive – a calculated risk taker
· Strong persuasive abilities
· Excellent presentation skills to work effectively with both internal and external parties
