Direct Hire Senior Engineer (Mechanical) in the Northside of Chicago
Our client is a global provider of equipment and services for electric power systems. Founded in 1911, the Chicago-based company designs and manufactures switching and protection products for electric power transmission and distribution. Their Polymer Products Division is a world leader in the manufacture of medium voltage dielectric epoxy products using a reactive injection molding process. The Polymer Products Engineering group is responsible for product, process and tool design for the production operation.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: o Providing high quality engineering support for our production lines o Identifying and resolving issues in production related to yield, process control and cycle time o Improving operating efficiency by providing automation solutions to manufacturing processes o Specifying, installing and starting up new production or testing equipment o Planning, developing, and coordinating small to large scale automation projects o Writing functional specifications, and design documentation o Conceptualizing production improvements including equipment fixture and tooling o Creating conceptual and prototype mechanical systems using CAD o Leading formal problem-solving efforts o Presenting compelling ideas and findings to senior management and engineers throughout the company o Preparing necessary design models, drawings and prototype requests to create test vehicles o Traveling to outside lab, customer, and supplier facilities as needed o Researching and defining customer problems leading to new and innovative solutions o Presenting significant findings, orally and in writing, to management, customers, and other engineers o Supporting and mentoring of other engineers in the company in the candidate’s areas of expertise o Working across departments with experts throughout the company to carry out product development efforts
Education/Work Experience Requirements: o BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related technical degree required, and MS Degree in related technical field preferred o 10+ years of product/process engineering experience (injection or thermoset molding experience a plus) o 5+ years of automation/controls engineering experience working in a manufacturing environment o Strong background in PLC programming and HMI development o Strong drafting skills with experience in 3D CAD modeling (Solid Edge a plus) o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills o Strong mechanical aptitude and math skills o Strong organizational skills, including the ability to map out projects, prioritize workloads and keep accurate documentation
