• Create drawings and designs of product ideas, generate and test prototypes, develop cost models, specify raw materials, and qualify vendors, create product and process specifications, develop and specify new manufacturing processes or equipment as needed.
• Lead the design and development of new products and product engineering using industry best practices, statistical methods, tolerance stack ups, design of experiments and other quality tools.
• Design and oversee all new tool builds and equipment for production to meet customer specifications; ensure tools are delivered to internal requirements and best practices within timelines.
• Lead the process qualification for and transition to full-scale production.
• Apply creative thinking, analysis, and good judgement to propose innovative solutions to technical problems, which may involve a range of diverse approaches and resolving conflicting issues.
• Run and support projects ranging from tooling improvements to new product development to ensure design for manufacturability and a flawless production launch. Develop detailed project plans with engineering, manufacturing, and sales and marketing teams to manage all aspects of product development and production.
• Lead projects and carry out assigned responsibilities in a timely, diligent, safe, and professional manner and guide all team members assigned to the project to keep them moving forward on schedule.
• Develop maintenance processes around tooling; train the team in handling tools during shutdowns and startups; share the same with tooling vendor for repairs and regular maintenance.
• Run daily control loop on tooling performance; resolve production challenges; create and track key performance indicators.
• Develop, evaluate, and improve tooling methodology including documenting into specifications, standard work processes and tracking metrics.
• Investigate and set up a local supply chain for tooling; identify, negotiate, and build long term partnerships; responsible for vendor management – daily interaction, training on specifications, repairs and meets our standards and technological capability.
• Conduct fluid flow simulations as per the specifications and be abreast of new technology in the market.
• Support capital investment process through participation in setting strategy, defining projects, and executing upon assignments. Purchase capital aligned with the budget and internal standards.
• Collaborate with global colleagues to ensure best practices are met; open to travel to explore and learn corporate tooling technology and leverage expertise.

The Tooling and Maintenance Engineer is responsible for product and tooling development of a thermoplastic co-extrusion process. Engineering functions relate to design of products and the related extrusion tooling for manufacturing in addition to maintenance, continuous improvement, daily operations, production troubleshooting and lean activities. Coordinate with local and global teams to bring divisional alignment to our tooling technology. The product development and tooling engineer is responsible to see product ideas through from design and development to serial production. Define, plan and monitor site tooling activities including managing cost, purchasing and inventory. Evaluate and learn existing technology, current capabilities, and product requirements to develop tooling specifications that enable efficient manufacturing.
