Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Lead Engineer 

Hipp Engineering & Consulting, Inc., is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer (P.E. required) with a minimum of 10 years of industrial facility design experience for our Raleigh office.   

  • Candidate must have experience in designing, developing, and providing engineering drawings and specifications for equipment which is used to monitor and control mechanical, process/chemical and electrical systems.  Project experience with FDA-regulated facilities and cGMP design exposure is preferred.
  • Required experience includes the design and development of new control systems as well as testing, maintaining and modifying existing systems.  Experience implementing hardware and software for process and facility control systems (PLC or DCS) is preferred.
  • Experience should include a strong background in specifying and commissioning industrial, process and HVAC instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, level, flow, and analytical measurements and valves.  A working knowledge of ISA (International Society for Automation) standards and guidelines is also required.  Awareness of OSHA, NFPA and other regulations is required with the ability to design to these standards where applicable.
  • Candidate must have a working knowledge of pneumatic sensors and control devices in a manufacturing environment.  Candidate must have a working knowledge of safety shutdown system design, SIL-rated and hazardous area instrumentation.
  • Control System networking design and specification are required as well as experience in Control Panel design.  This includes laying out control devices and components, AC and DC power distribution, pneumatic devices, low voltage signal wiring and grounding.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering (or other applicable engineering program) or equivalent experience necessary. 
  • A working knowledge of AutoCAD is required
  • Revit experience a plus.
  • A strong commitment to quality, including self-checking skills, is required along with the ability to identify and assess solution options.
  • Resource management, budget, proposal development, and supervisory experience a plus.
