Pulau Corporation Fort Irwin, CA Full Time

The Range Operations Specialist works at the Fort Irwin Range Operations center under the direct supervision of the Range operations supervisor. Range Operations is the central organization that schedules and de-conflicts all range training and processes all administrative standard and non-standard range requests. Range Operations is a 7 day a week 24 hour service for Military training. This position requires strong interpersonal skills with a professional attitude with clear concise emphasis on Customer service. This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement and for the first five days only internal bargaining unit members will be considered.

Job Duties:

  • Work at the Range Operations firing desk on one of three shifts.
  • Monitor and assist military units during range use.
  • Administratively monitor training area personnel and contractors.
  • Administratively control access and movement of military training areas and firing Ranges.
  • Maintain continuous two-way radio communication with military and civilian personnel in training areas and static ranges.
  • Document hourly communication checks.
  • Document range/training area activity status.
  • Operate and update the Range Facility Management Support System (RFMSS).
  • Issue Range portfolios, access passes, targets and other items required by military units during range training.
  • Issue safety equipment as needed for range operations.
  • Administratively monitor and document Drop Zone operations with ATC personnel.
  • Ensure historical data of ammo types and the quantities of ammunition fired is maintained.
  • Professionally report and initiate weapons/ammunition malfunctions procedures.
  • Professionally coordinate with all relative organizations the Ft. Irwin medical evacuation procedures.
  • Operate an emergency communications system (crash phone.)
  • Notify the G-3 of serious incidents and emergencies on firing ranges and training areas.
  • Serve as a focal point for medical evacuations.
  • Initiate and manage the mishap/MEDEVAC request procedure.
  • Processes the initial MEDEVAC incident report and will activate necessary alarms, will dispatch emergency responses with associated agencies, will notify affected agencies and restrict all relevant operations as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have the ability to conduct themselves in a calm professional manner and must comprehend the level of customer service becoming a representative of Range Operations.
  • Must be able to work with difficult customers in a calm professional manner, must have the ability to interact calmly and professionally when receiving calls for medical and emergency support from panicked or confused callers.
  • Must have the ability to monitor and communicate using a telephone and/or radio system.
  • Must be able to work 2nd or 3rd shifts, holidays, and weekends.
  • Must have the ability to use and interpret Army Manuals.
  • Must have the ability to use good judgment and common sense when performing job functions.
  • Must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic understanding of military range control and field training operations:
  • Familiar with military phraseology and acronyms
  • Familiar with processing, logging, filing and coordinating follow up actions to forms and verbal information
  • Must know how to orient and read a military map to an eight digit grid coordinate, and basic knowledge of military weapons and ammunition.
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license and the ability to obtain a military driver’s license within the first 30 days of employment and attend the Defensive Driver’s Course (DDC).
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain post access and driving privileges.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a CAC (pass a security background clearance to obtain a Public Trust.)
  • Understand personal computer well enough to use a word processing program and an Office OS.
  • Must be capable of using FM communications in an articulate and knowledgeable manner.
  • Must be capable of reading, writing and speaking English to assist customers with questions and/or instructions
