Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:  The Finance & Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the analytic planning and execution of all financial and accounting activities required to support the growth and profitability for the Storm Manufacturing business unit.  Responsibilities include leading and managing SMG’s accounting team and functions, ensuring Generally Accepted Accounting Principles are followed in the analysis and preparation of financial information and reports, financial analysis and controls, and ensuring financial systems and analytics are maximized to support all business activities. 





Regular Functions include:


  • Provide leadership and oversight to employees within the department to mentor, coach and develop their skills. Set Finance and Accounting department goals and objectives and ensure deliverables are met.

  • Ensure the accurate preparation of accounting and financial reports including but not limited to: month end closing and reporting, publish all financial statements including income statements and balance sheets, reporting and forecast of cash flows, , account reconciliations, operational reports, pricing/profitability analysis, variance analysis, reserves and management estimates, quarterly sales & use tax returns, annual property tax returns, maintain fixed asset records, inventory forecasting, break-even and ROI analysis.


  • Manage credit, collections, and accounts payables processes through review of contracts, orders and invoices prior to payment. Periodically review and set credit and payment terms to customers.

  • Annual Budget Development:

  • Lead the SMG accounting team’s process to analyze, support and develop annual budget. 

  • Serve as a business partner with the SMG President and department heads in the budget creation.

  • Manage budget files and serve as a resource for budget related questions.


  • Audit Leadership:

  • Manage required PBC items in support of the annual financial audit.

  • Provide responses to auditor’s requests.


  • Support the management team with operational activities including the preparation of margin analysis for material, labor and overhead cost, Material Overhead and Labor Absorption, Product Costing, cost reduction activities within purchasing and operations, improved inventory turns, working capital analysis, PPV analysis, transaction cost analysis and assist with “Make/Buy” decisions.

  • Assist with compiling research when needed, on key macroeconomic market indicators, trends, and specific market analysis for the management team

  • Assist with financial modeling and due diligence in business development projects

  • Coordinate SMG related IT activities and projects in cooperation with Corporate IT and outside consultants.  This includes evaluating and maximizing benefits from current systems as well as driving improvements and innovations.


  • Other duties as required.  

    Periodic Functions include:

  • Ad hoc reports as required

  • Presentations as required


Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Manage, direct and mentor the SMG finance/accounting staff

  • Recommend and assist with development programs.  Ensure performance objectives are outlined and completed thoroughly and in a timely manner




Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in accounting or finance

  • Minimum 5+ years related experience in operations focused accounting/finance role

  • MBA a plus but not required

Licenses and Certifications include:

  • CPA/CMA a plus but not required

  • Strong problem solving skills with ability to define problems, collect date, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and execute solutions

  • Ability to prepare presentation and write reports, correspondence and procedures


Professional/Technical Training and Skills include:

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft office products; advanced Excel required

  • Advanced knowledge working with ERP systems

  • Experience with Great Plains a plus

  • Experience with BI360 a plus

  • Understanding of Lean manufacturing a plus

  • Project management skills
