Lead Commercial Loan Specialist

This position is responsible for the detailed review of complex commercial loan and mortgage packages to monitor adherence to legal and regulatory requirements and internal lending and credit policies and to ensure accurate accounting, billing and correct database coding for various internal and external reports. This position researches and responds to complex customer issues and problems and collaborates with management to resolve complex situations.
Reviews and interprets complex legal documentation submitted by a diverse group of attorneys and changes legal language into coding for the commercial accounting system. Utilizes accounting skills to keep the accruals, billing, general ledger accounts and system in balance. Sets-up, adjusts and corrects systems to accurately reflect the commercial loan portfolio. Resolves complex accrual problems independently.
Assists in the training of Commercial lending staff and trains junior staff members on systems, legal and regulatory guidelines, internal lending and credit policies and business law as it pertains to Commercial loans.
Works with diverse internal and external contacts to research and resolve documentation deficiencies, billing issues and a wide range of other issues and problems. Assists senior staff members with complex problems pertaining to lawsuits, judgements, note sales and participations.
Utilizes knowledge of current regulatory and legal requirements, internal and external credit and lending policies and procedures, business law and accounting principles to identify and resolve non-compliance issues. Reviews system exception reports and determines and applies appropriate corrections.
Identifies and recommends viable process changes to management to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the department. Collaborates with management to implement changes.
Plays a key role in various department projects including system upgrades, conversions, and interfaces.
Acts as a resource to Commercial Loan Specialists. Provides advice and guidance on end of day proof when complex problems arise.
Keeping abreast of industry trends and maintaining current and strong knowledge of the banking industry and loan operations best practices. Use specialized knowledge to work with others to develop reports and trend analysis for various departments within Loan Operations.
Prepares monthly summary reports on behalf of assigned areas for management presentations and business line review. Prepare monthly volume reporting for all departments within Loan Operations.
Assist with the coordination and compilation of data across multiple departments and functions.
Initiates and coordinates quality and quantity related data from production databases, and uses statistical analysis to suggest process improvements.
Identifies and recommends potential workflow or quality assurance efficiencies through automation opportunities.
Ensures the team is providing a high level of support and service to internal customers. Works cross-functionally with other business units as well as with peers and management to research and resolve issues.
Assists with shared department workload, contributing to additional assignments as well as other Loan Operations functions as needed. Must possess the ability to work in teams and independently, with a variety of stakeholders.

College degree or equivalent work experience.
2 - 5 years relevant experience.
Ability to work with a team and share knowledge and skills to train a wide range of employees.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
Specialized knowledge of accounting principles. Comprehensive understanding of loan workouts, judgements, bankruptcies, recoveries and the consequences of mishandling these situations.
Excellent research and analytical skills are needed to resolve problems effectively, identify areas for improvement and make viable solutions and to make significant contributions to various project teams.
Ability to be resourceful and comfortable utilizing internal and external contacts to complete assignments.
Expert-level mastery of Advanced Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Visio, Access and Business Objects.
Advanced Excel skills including but not limited to importing and exporting data, advanced filtering and converting text to columns, VLookups, complex formulas, pivot tables and charts.
Advanced Word skills including but not limited to mail merge and forms creation.
PC skills including internet applications and internal bank software.
