Baker Electric is looking for a Transportation Superintendent to join our Los Angeles Team! The position of Superintendent works to enhance the profitability of the business by developing the professional growth of our Foreman and General Foreman, overseeing and implementing the execution of aggressive production practices, managing manpower levels, maintaining close contact with customer jobsite Superintendents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure all foremen are following and understand Baker Electric’s interpretation of the project’s specifications and job drawings. Determine with foremen any conflicts with drawings, differing job conditions, or scheduling issues and coordinate possible solutions. If the Foreman has exhausted efforts with the responsible party, become Baker Electric’s initial Management effort at resolving the problem with the Project Superintendent or Inspector. If unsatisfactory results are attained, seek assistance through Project Management.
  • Monitor that foremen are interacting with the inspectors regarding specification discrepancies, detail interpretations and approved product submittals by explaining Baker Electric interpretations. If the Foreman has exhausted efforts with the responsible party, become Baker Electric’s initial Management effort at resolving the problem with the Project Superintendent or Inspector. If unsatisfactory results are attained, seek assistance through Project Management.
  • Verify that foremen are submitting weekly work percent complete data.
  • Monitor manpower at jobsites and assist foremen in setting crew sizes, and in forecasting requirements for manpower. Oversee hiring and dismissal of personnel and movement of manpower between projects sites.
  • Ensure Labor Variance Report on each project accurately reflects the current project status and effectively forecasts manpower requirements and adherence to budgeted hours.
  • Inspect work in progress to ensure that construction schedules are adhered to and costs are within budget guidelines.
  • Visit sites regularly to direct and monitor the progress of construction activities through foremen to ensure projects are following current schedules, budgets and specifications.
  • Monitor job progress, assist in cost to complete estimates, and man-hour to complete estimates as needed.
  • Manage all projects to ensure that crew rate budgets are adhered to.
  • Approve all overtime for foreman and field staff. Ensure overtime is compensable to Baker Electric. Obtain approval of significant non-compensable overtime from the Project Manager. Obtain approval of continuous overtime shifts from the V.P. of Construction Operations.
  • Increase the overall capabilities of field personnel with the goal of creating best in class field business managers. The expectation is that all Foreman develop the capabilities to fully function as General Foreman and that General Foreman are fully capable of performing at the Area Superintendent level on a daily basis.
  • Promote and maintain a cooperative relationship with all clients and company personnel. Enforce company policy and procedures in regards to workmanship standards, safety and training.
  • Provide Safety information and training according to company policies and CAL-OSHA requirements.
  • Monitor field housekeeping activities for compliance with job safety requirements and standards. Anticipate and immediately correct potentially unsafe situations.
  • Ensure proper reporting of employee job injuries.
  • Make sure all Construction employees comply with applicable federal, state, city, municipality and union laws and regulations. Maintain good working relations with the union.
  • Ensure all material installation methods are being completed with high standards of quality.
  • Communicate material installation with the Project Manager for possible specification or code conflicts or quality problems.
  • Actively review projects for Pre-Fab opportunities and assist foremen in implementing Pre-Fab items into the project.
  • Ensure foremen are strategically planning all aspects of the project per Baker Electric’s planning process.
  • Communicate potential long lead item delays to prevent possible disruptions in the production schedule.
  • Monitor that material is being ordered and arriving on the job site on schedule, and field paper work is maintained correctly.
  • Assure that foremen arrange proper storage and security for materials delivered to the job site.
  • Report any unresolved material problems (ordering, arrival, backorders, damages, shortage, etc.) to the Project Manager and/or Purchasing Manager.
  • Oversee tooling and equipment procedures and proper usage.
  • Ensure workers are using tools properly.
  • Confirm that foremen perform continuous review of the condition of tools and that coordination of any repairs occurs.
  • Supervise rented tool/equipment usage and “call offs”.
  • Review job status tool inventories list with each foremen and ensure the report is returned to the warehouse after it has been reconciled.
  • Verify foremen are completing RFIs (Request for Information) properly and when needed.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION :

  • Successful completion of I.B.E.W. Apprenticeship or equivalent
  • Currently being in I.B.E.W is not a requirement , this is a Baker field position
  • At least 6-10 years of Experience in field
  • Valid CA Driver ’s License required
  • Targeting someone with traffic control experience, traffic signal retro fits,
  • Ability to read and understand plans/specs
  • Knowledge of fiber optic cable, cameras, cabinets
  • Effective Computer Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office(Excel, Word, Outlook)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, climb, talk, hear, see and use complex repetitive motions. May frequently lift and or move at least 75 pounds of materials, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment includes indoor as well as outdoor settings and can range in temperature from 30°F to 110°F. The work surface can include unfinished crawl spaces and attics as well as roof tops, walk-in freezers, and concrete floors or pads. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud (60 -90 dB). Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
