Director of Sales

The Director of Sales is responsible for the overall revenue and market share results of the hotel and demonstrating great leadership. Implements strategies that support the positioning of the property. Partners with the General Manager and Ownership to advise, guide and support on various sales functions and initiatives. Ensures financial and revenue goals are achieved and sales productivity benchmarks are met.


The Director of Sales is responsible for quarterly sales plans, annual marketing plans, yield meetings, accountability meetings, sales file maintenance, breakfast and lobby coverage, proactive direct sales, training, pricing, advertising and any other responsibilities we may assign to this person.


  • Responsible for exceeding sales goals established by the General Manager
  • Establish, develop and manage local client base by displaying strong direct outside and inside sales efforts
  • Develop and maintain market awareness to ensure ability to predict revenue opportunities and set proactive strategies
  • Responsible for leading sales strategies and initiatives for the hotel, managing all group bookings and business accounts, eCommerce strategies and maximizing all revenue streams
  • Initiate and follow up on leads while proactively championing creative local marketing solutions that fit the brand and property needs
  • Identifies opportunities for local partnerships and promotions to drive non-hotel staying business to the property
  • Operate the sales department within the established sales expense budget
  • Ability to understand, develop and present budgets and financial reports
  • Out of the box type thinking to capture business through social media or similar avenues
  • Achieve and grow local accounts, global accounts and yearly revenues
  • Professional and timely correspondence with new or existing clients to ensure all needs are met
  • Excellent time management, networking and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and communicates well both verbally and in writing
  • Responsible for finding creative and innovative ways to improve sales efficiency and organization
  • Effectively cope with change and is comfortable handling risk and uncertainty
  • Responsible to ensure captured group business inventory levels are under control and in line with agreement
  • Knowledge of general sales techniques, yield management and customer service skills
  • Communicate client needs to hotel operations team to ensure guest
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience preferred

  • 3-5 years of hotel sales leadership experience, knowledge of local area
  • Select and Focused service or extended stay hotel experience a plus
  • Hands-on professional with a passion to motivate others and a willingness to personally demonstrate a successful method of selling beyond goals and expectations
  • Have knowledge and experience in writing, directing and executing marketing and action plans annually and quarterly
  • Excellent skills in team building, selecting talent, training, mentoring and developing a sales team and achieving goals
  • Extensive experience in managing the daily operations, directing the effort, executing and exceeding weekly sales call goals, teleprospecting calls, hotel site tours and cold calls goals
  • Effective communication skills to establish strong customer relationships and repeat business opportunities through a pro-active leadership style
  • Managing the sales effort through forecasting, budgeting and yield management to achieve and exceed top line goals
  • Drive revenues through new business opportunities and develop a strong customer base
  • Pro-active sales approach to saturate and penetrate accounts that meet the hotels quarterly goals
  • Professional and effective written correspondence, proposals, bids and follow-up must be demonstrated
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, passion and drive are required to be successful in this position
  • Some travel required both locally and regionally
  • Must be willing to work the hours necessary to ensure your success
  • Experience using Hotel Sales Force Automation (Delphi, ISAAC, SFA, etc)
  • Hilton brand experience preferred.
