Primary Responsibilities:
Perform routine metallographic evaluation of prepared ferrous and non-ferrous specimens in accordance with client requirements and internal procedures.


Essential Functions

  • Apply criteria expressed in material and process specifications to the evaluation of suitably prepared metallurgical specimens and generate reports.
  • Assist in the coordination of work flow through the department and scheduling to meet client needs.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to metallographic preparation technicians and assist with specimen preparation as required from time to time.
  • Conduct various corrosion susceptibility tests.
  • Perform laboratory heat treatment of specimens.
  • Interact with clients periodically to review work instructions and evaluation results.
  • Perform other duties as may be required from time to time.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Associates degree or two years of post-high school studies in relevant technical field.
  • Minimum 3 years in materials laboratory setting or materials-related field.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed technical specifications and drawings.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent English communication skills including correct basic grammar, spelling, punctuation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Keyboarding proficiency (40 wpm preferred).
  • Ability to safely carry out oral and written work instructions.

Physical Requirements
Position requires sitting, standing at equipment, limited lifting (max lift 50 lbs) and walking.

Work Environment
Climate controlled laboratory, normal ambient sound level.
Personal protective equipment provided by employer.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 hours/day
