The Facilities Operations Department is seeking well qualified candidates to apply for the position of Electrician II. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain, install, repair, and operate electrical systems and components;
  • Maintain low and medium voltage components; perform repairs and replace electrical installations
  • Maintain, test and calibrate controls, transformers and self-contained watt hour meters
  • Clean and maintain power distribution equipment, tools, and supplies and maintain and repair fire alarm systems
  • Maintain wiring, power appliances, light machinery, electrical circuits, electrical motors, generators and other electrical equipment
  • Locate and correct power failures and electrical malfunctions
  • Perform preventive maintenance to all appropriate electrical systems as required for the preventive maintenance program
  • Ensure that maintenance requirements for electrical and mechanical systems are initiated for all new equipment and are up to date and correct for existing equipment
  • Assist in the planning of electrical systems and renovation projects dealing with all electrical aspects

Minimum Qualifications:

Licensed as an electrician in the State of Florida and 3+ years of relevant experience. For applicants who hold a license in another state (Georgia, North Carolina, or California) which has reciprocity with the State of Florida, they will need to apply to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation to get their license approved as a Florida equivalent license. For those applicants who hold a license in a state in which Florida does not have reciprocity, they will have six months to take the examination.

The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Preferences:

  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controller
  • Possess skills on electrical systems including, but not limited to, the following:
  • building, installing, testing, adapting and performing preventive maintenance on complex electronic and electrical components and ensuring that all components adhere to national and state codes;
  • Proficient in using various computer programs including and/or equivalent to Microsoft Office suites and AiM Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS);
  • Possess a working knowledge of preventative maintenance in areas such as complex electronic and electrical components;
  • Able to make emergency electrical repairs; use various electrical meters & construct and install power supplies;
  • Ability to examine blueprints for correct electrical wiring and determination of proper load limits;
  • Ability to understand and interpret standard safety procedures and read blueprints.

Special Instructions:

This position will require all applicants to go through and favorably complete a HSPD-12 background check, as it requires security access to Department of Defense (DOD) controlled areas. This process will include fingerprinting and identity verification which will be submitted to Florida Department of Law Enforcement. There is no cost to the applicant for the HSPD-12 background check.

 

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license (regular license). The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
