Busy multidisciplinary Orthopaedic private practice seeks a full-time Billing Specialist to work in the billing office as a member of our billing team.The candidate should have experience working in a medical office and will report to the Office Administrator. The billing specialist job duties include submitting claims, posting charges, posting payments, insurance company follow-up,  and working aging reports. The candidate will be working closely with staff, patients, and insurance companies and should possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, customer service & computer skills. This position requires that the candidate maintains strict confidentiality and adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.

A qualified candidate must: have a minimum of two years experience in medical billing; be dependable, punctual, and professional; be organized and efficient; be detail oriented; be computer confident; and have the ability to multitask.


 At least two years working in a medical patient account environment

 Proven understanding of Explanation of Benefits forms, claim forms and the insurance billing process

 Working knowledge of managed care, commercial insurance, Medicare, and workers compensation reimbursement

 In depth knowledge of CPT and ICD-10-CM coding

 Knowledge of Medicare rules and fraud & abuse guidelines

 Knowledge of E&M coding guidelines


  Follow up on insurance claim status, resolve denials/rejections, submit re-bills, re-submit claims, and file appeals

 Collect on insurance and patient outstanding balances

 Establish payment plans, accept payment, and work aging reports

 Post insurance and patient payments (cash, check, credit card, Explanation of Benefits, EFT)

 Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable

 Obtain insurance verification, precertification, and authorization via phone and insurance payer portals

 Update patient accounts with registration, insurance, demographic, scheduling, and billing data

 Typing proficiency of 60 words per minute

 Excellent word processing software skills with a program such as Word

 Comfortable using e-mail and interacting with Internet applications

 Able to work independently

 Neat, professional appearance

 Strong written and verbal communication skills
