The Operations Manager serves a critical role within the GEO Specialty Chemicals organization and is a key contributing member to the success of the high profile Bastrop facility. The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the Ultrafloc and Aluminum Sulfate production unit supervisors and the Loader/Blender hourly staff in order to produce, prepare, and ship products safely, at the lowest possible cost, with the highest possible yield, and with acceptable quality in accordance with all Federal, State, local, and Company laws, rules, and regulations.
Primary Areas of Responsibility:
Enforce company and plant-specific policies and best practices regarding safety and environmental compliance. The Operations Manager must be seen as a safety leader.
Under the direction of the Plant Manager, schedule production personnel and other resources to assure smooth operation of the production and truck loading processes.
Oversee and provide training (including safety training) for new employees and supplemental training for experienced hourly employees.
Identify and implement opportunities to improve production efficiencies to improve quality, increase output, and reduce operating costs.
Oversee the implementation of capital projects.
Manage/schedule raw material receipts and final product shipments.
Directs daily quality control activities to ensure that in-process and finished goods analytical results meet specifications.
Ensure an acceptable level of housekeeping is maintained throughout the facility.
Review the performance of hourly employees and take corrective action if necessary.
- Night and weekend on-call duty is a job requirement.
Coach, mentor, and supervise supervisors and hourly production to ensure that production goals and objectives are achieved.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required; chemical engineering degree preferred.
- A strong commitment to safety and environmental excellence.
- Experience in a chemicals manufacturing environment preferred.
- Minimum 5 years experience directly supervising hourly employees.
- Experience in a 24/7 operating environment is a plus.
- Experience with specialty batch chemicals manufacturing is a plus.
- Project management experience is a plus.
All GEO Personnel are required to participate in all Corporate Safety Training Programs and any site-specific safety training and policies.
