Job Description

Licensed Vocational Nurse (Temporary Aug.- Dec. 2019)

We are currently looking for a full-time Licensed Vocational Nurse who is ready to make a difference in the lives of others and help Sierra Vista Child & Family Services continue our commitment to caring!

As a Licensed Vocation Nurse in our Non Public School programs, you will work with student population as part of a treatment team. Responsibilities include administration of medical/health program, medication administration, psychiatric support, record maintenance, appt. scheduling, health education for children and staff.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Physical capabilities to restrain children, lift over 20 lbs., and engage in physical activity.

  2. Learns and uses skills and techniques of child care treatment.

  3. Displays a strong sense of nurturing.

  4. Understands and develops effective relationships with children.

  5. Works cooperatively with all agency staff.

  6. Protect and honor individual integrity through confidentiality/maintain confidential information according to legal standards.

  7. Effectively use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention techniques for crisis prevention and/or crisis intervention.

  8. Effectively use de-escalation skills and techniques for crisis prevention.


Administration of Medication

  1. Properly administers all medication to school children in compliance with title 22 and Medi-cal requirements.

  2. Maintains accurate records of medication administration and inventory.

  3. Inventory of all in-coming and outgoing medications and monthly inventory of stored medications.

  4. Alerts physician and clinical staff when child is due for medication review and/or refill.

  5. Contact parents regarding need for medication refill.

  6. Prepares medication informed consent forms for signature of physician, parent and client.

  7. Ensures that consent forms are signed and on file prior to administration of medication.

  8. Ensures that current physician's order is on file prior to administration of medication.

  9. Ensures that appropriate permission slips are signed for administration of medication.

  10. Informs physician when lab work is due (every three months), according to agency policy.

    Scheduling Of Physician Appointments

  1. Responsible for scheduling all client appointments with psychiatrist.

  2. Provides list of children to be seen by the physician and the reason for visit.

  3. Schedules parent appointments when required for medication issues.

  4. Monitors to ensure that all physician progress notes are completed and filed.

Health Education

  1. Responsible for developing appropriate health-related in-service for staff.
  2. Responsible for developing appropriate health education for client children.
  3. Conducts regular instruction in health-related topics to staff and client children.

Infection Control

  1. Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, coordinate, and direct our infection control program in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines set forth by regulation and the agency.
  2. Develop, maintain, and periodically update Infection Control Plan and associated forms to address and correct problem areas.
  3. Develop and maintain a good rapport with all services involved with the care plan to ensure that a team effort is achieved in developing the resident's total regimen of care in preventing and controlling infections.


  1. Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings as requested.

  2. Supervises general health of children.

  3. Determines medical examination necessities.

  4. Recommends the limiting of activities of residents due to medical problems.

  5. Administers first aid to clients and staff.

  6. Requests reasons for school absences in writing.

  7. Responsible for monitoring attendance daily, filling out the monthly form for Stanislaus County Department of Education and submitting attendance record to the program director.

  8. Attends treatment meetings when possible.

  9. Orders necessary medical supplies.

  10. Helps prepare insurance billing.

  11. Plans nutritional breakfasts and snacks and orders necessary breakfast and snack items.

  12. Everyone who works in the organization has responsibilities for preventing and controlling infection.

  13. Report any suspected child abuse immediately to direct supervisor or if not available up the chain of command.

  14. Report any suspected dependent adult/elder abuse immediately to direct supervisor or if not available up the chain of command. 

  15. Other assigned duties.

Job Requirements


  1. Licensed as either a registered nurse (RN) or licensed vocational nurse (LVN).

  2. Experience working with children for at least two years prior to employment.

  3. Must possess a valid California driver’s license with less than 2 minor moving violations.
