Responsible for designing, implementing, and troubleshooting controls and PLC programs for both new and existing manufacturing equipment/processes and manufacturing engineering systems.
Responsible for ensuring that both new and existing manufacturing processes: equipment, tooling, facility, methods, standard work, manufacturing engineering systems, and process controls; produce products that meet: EH&S requirements, customer requirements, Modine risk management objectives, quality requirements, standard labor cost, overhead cost, and material costs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • This position reports to the ACS/Coolers Business Unit Manager  The principal activities of the manufacturing engineer involve projects related to PLC controls and programming of Manufacturing processes, along with tradition ME activities such as layouts, fixture & tooling design, and Continuous Improvement activities.
 
  • The individual will be responsible for the ME functions as related to new product launches,  continuous improvement of current product lines, and emerging or ongoing process issues.
 
  • Direction and coordination of product and process launches using APQP procedures and principles.
 
  • Ensuring that the manufacturing processes are established with equipment, tooling, and process controls that meet operational targets. This will incorporate PCL programs and other controls
 
  • Implementation of the PM system and the maintenance and repair of the equipment & tooling.
 
  • Equipment and tooling capacity monitoring and planning. 
 
  • Proposing improvement plan to be used for capital budget for management approval.
 
  • Ensuring that that applicable Standard Practices are understood and applied.
 
  • Monitor key operational measurables – Scrap, FPY, OEE, Productivity, etc. This function will also incorporate PLC programs and controls.
 
  • Plan PM requirements for all key tooling and equipment and monitor system to ensure compliance and performance. 
 
  • The manufacturing engineer will provide technical assistance to the business unit, including machine operator training and generating work instructions.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with ladder logic and PCL programming
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, & pneumatic systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with manufacturing processes, equipment and tooling
  • Experienced with CAD systems
  • Experience with Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) in support of launching projects
  • Ability to work in a team environment to further the advancement of Modine equipment an processes
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and demands

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering/Technology, Mechanical Engineering/Technology, or Industrial Engineering/Technology, or related field with 3-5 years of extensive experience in controls and PLC programming.

  • Implementing continuous improvement in manufacturing
  • Utilize lean manufacturing methods to enhance manufacturing efficiencies and reduce costs
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes to continually improve efficiencies at manufacturing facilities
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes by reviewing exisitng product and manufacturing processes
