POSITION: 20190187 Temporary Utility Worker
Department: Power & Communications
Hiring Range: $16.84 - $18.71/hour
Temporary Part Time
5 days per week / 8 hours per day
DEFINITION: Under direct supervision from technicians, performs a variety of unskilled labor to support Broadband installation activities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Dig and fill trenches for fiber optic installation and operation of small machines. Assist installation and fiber optic technicians in Broadband installation duties involving skilled and semi-skilled labor. Maintain and clean City-owned tools and equipment. Operate non-CDL City vehicles and equipment. Perform errands for other department personnel. Pick-up and deliver parts, materials and equipment to work locations. Respond to service calls, including emergency “on-call” shifts, with an ability to respond to a site within the established timeframe.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and can require emergency availability. Work requires ability to lift large heavy objects weighing over 45 pounds and perform strenuous physical labor. Work requires bending, climbing, pulling, carrying, kneeling, walking, and standing for significant periods of time. Work involves exposure to excessive noise and irregular terrain.
QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to assure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance. Experience in landscaping or landscape trenching activities preferred.
Special Qualifications: Possession of a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
