Provide engineering expertise to the design and development of internal combustion (IC) engines for forklift trucks.
Concept Product Design - Present creative, workable ideas in a well-planned form to supervision for approval. Perform in-depth analysis of components and system designs using hand calculations, software simulations, and experimental results.
Layout Design - Create layouts of proposed design. Ensure that designs are functional, safe, reliable, serviceable, manufacturable, cost effective, and esthetically and ergonomically correct. Select appropriate materials and organize bill of materials data. Create, check, and approve shop-ready drawings.
Monitor Prototype Creation - Order parts, request specific testing, and assist in building prototypes. Act as primary technical contact for machine shops and suppliers from request for quotation (RFQ) through incoming inspection. Review test results to ensure proper functioning, and redesign as needed. Oversee engine assembly processes and participate in the hands-on assembly. Support engine testing.
Product Release - Assist in engineering design release to production. Assist purchasing, quality, and manufacturing engineering in preparation for production. Assist service and marketing departments in developing product service manual or literature content or resolving content discrepancies.
Project Leadership - Establish project plans/schedules and provide status reports. Identify staffing and resource requirements and provide status reports. Provide technical leadership to other engineering staff overseeing concept design, layouts, and design reviews. Respond to questions from purchasing, sales, engineering, and other departments.
Automotive Engineer, Spark Ignition (SI) Engines, Diesel Engines, Heavy Equipment, IC Engines, Material Handling Industry, Off Road Vehicles
Bachelor degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Vehicle Engineering, or equivalent experience
5 or more years of engine component design experience (Salary will be commensurate with experience)
Deep understanding of internal combustion engine efficiency, physics, thermodynamics
Good written communication, verbal communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills with a “can-do” attitude
Must have valid driving privileges
Ability to travel occasionally with overnight stays (0-5%)
Project leadership experience
Training and experience with GT Suite, ANSYS, MATLAB
NX CAD or similar CAD software
Experience working in a machine shop/prototype environment
