We are currently recruiting for a contract position to start in 1 week to last until 2021. This is a contract position in the NYC metro area to help build out new websites for a large enterprise organization using the WP enterprise edition.
The WordPress Developer is responsible for the build, maintenance, and quality assurance of all of our WordPress sites and their shared theme. It is essential that the WordPress Developer balance a creative eye with a programming mind. The WordPress Developer is responsible for aesthetics on the front end, and the success of integrations, plugins, and functionality on the back end. The WordPress Developer will need a strong technical background with proven Gutenberg WordPress experience.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Use markup languages like PHP, HTML5, Sass, and jQuery to create, maintain, and improve user-friendly websites
- Create new custom WordPress blocks
- Optimize web performance to align with marketing best practices (ex. loading speeds and capacity)
- Test websites across browsers, operating systems and devices, identifying and efficiently resolving issues, debugging pages and fixing broken links or images
- Work with the Development team to implement new customer-facing technology, develop database integrations, and improve overall website usability
- Work alongside Website Strategy & SEO Manager to monitor traffic, update website content, and analyze site performance (e.g traffic, conversions)
- Research, evaluate, and recommend technology and software
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification Requirements
- Strong proficiency in HTML, jQuery, and CSS
- Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML)
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools (such as Git, SVN, and Mercurial)
- Strong understanding of PHP back-end development
- Experience developing Gutenberg Wordpress sites using custom themes and post types
- Proficient understanding of Wordpress Hooks, Filters, and coding standards
- Familiar with XML sitemaps and Robots.txt
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities, experience detecting and evaluating issues, devising appropriate solutions within constraints, and executing on those solutions
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, experience dealing with non-technical co-workers or collaborators to translate business needs into technical implementation
- Knowledge of web analytics and SEO
- Understanding of layout aesthetics
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Sass CSS
- Experience with Bootstrap
- Experience with React
- Experience with Advanced Custom Fields and Gravity Forms plugins
- Experience managing sites with WP Engine
- Experience developing Child Themes
- Experience in setting up AMP and building AMP-compatible templates
