Joining the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) means being part of the team focused on securing the Nation's physical and cyber infrastructure against threats to public health and safety, economy, and national security.

This is an agency-wide position, which is comprised of several geographically separated divisions with a nationwide force: Infrastructure Security Division, Cybersecurity Division, Emergency Communications Division, National Risk Management Center and several organizational units. Typical work assignments include:

  • Developing assessment test plans, assessment reports and provides remediation or mitigation strategies.
  • Analyzing the validity of technology trend data.
  • Assessing cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Utilizing techniques for detecting host and network based intrusions using intrusion detection technologies.
  • Implementing the organization's core business/mission processes.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.

  • You must successfully pass a background investigation.

  • Selective Service registration required.
  •  
  • You must be able to obtain and hold a Top Secret/SCI or lower level security clearance as identified by CISA.

  • Qualifications
  • GS-09:
    You qualify for the GS-09 grade level (starting salary $$51,440.00) if you possess information technology related experience demonstrating each of the four required competencies:
    1. Attention to Detail: Analyzing software to identify areas for improvements.
    2. Customer Service: Coordinating with personnel to provide automation support.
    3. Oral Communication: Explaining technical information orally to non-technical audiences.
    4. Problem Solving: Working with staff to solve office automation issues.
    In addition to the above requirement you must meet the following specialized experience or education to qualify at the GS-09 grade level:

    Specialized Experience:
    Have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level performing the following duties:
    1. Communicating computer network concepts to individuals seeking technological support.
    2. Providing support to ensure compliance of automated information system security protocols and procedures.
    3. Expressing technical information to staff to assist with security problem issues.
    Education:
    Have successfully completed 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. (Include copies of transcripts with your application)


    GS-11:
    You qualify for the GS-11 grade level (starting salary $62,236.00) if you possess information technology related experience demonstrating each of the four required competencies:
    1. Attention to Detail: Reviewing reports of installed information technologies to identify potential risks.
    2. Customer Service: Working with customers to determine system requirements and resources.
    3. Oral Communication: Explaining technical information orally to non-technical audiences.
    4. Problem Solving: Resolving security problems identified with system changes.
    In addition to the above requirement you must meet the following specialized experience or education to qualify at the GS-11 grade level:

    Specialized Experience:
    Have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level performing the following duties:
    1. Assessing new system design methodologies to improve software quality.
    2. Conducting risk assessments of installed information systems to identify protection needs of activities.
    3. Ensuring integration of security programs with other IT program services.
    Education:
    Have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.     GS-12:
    You qualify for the GS-12 grade level (starting salary $74,596.00) if you possess information technology related experience demonstrating each of the four required competencies:
    1. Attention to Detail: Analyzing installed information technologies to identify potential risks.
    2. Customer Service: Coordinate with all personnel levels to provide technical advice on IT security systems and services.
    3. Oral Communication: Explaining technical information orally to non-technical audiences.
    4. Problem Solving: Resolving security problems by implementing corrective policies.
    In addition to the above requirement you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level performing the following duties:
    1. Controlling authorization level for all personnel requiring user access to automated information systems.
    2. Evaluating the security impact of system changes to existing or proposed computerized systems.
    3. Conducting studies all new automated information systems equipment to prepare effective security procedures.
    4. Ensuring compliance of automated information system security protocols and procedures.
