Job Description

We are a growing residential building supply company with offices in Bristow and Orange, VA.We are looking for a detail-oriented and deadline-oriented accountant that will enhance the organization by assisting with various month-end close responsibilities to prepare monthly financial statements. The candidate must be a self-starter with a developed comfort interfacing with all departments in the organization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare month close journal entries (JE)
  • Prepare bank reconciliations
  • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Prepare P&L flux analysis by analyzing data to identify trends and/or unusual variances
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing
  • Prepare intercompany and equity rollforwards
  • Compile PBC items for annual compilation and/or annual reviews
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly Sales & Use Tax and annual Property Taxes
  • Glean, compile and summarize data from multiple platforms and systems
  • Maintain daily/monthly/quarterly cash analysis
  • Maintain various adhoc schedules and files for such items as leases, LOC, company vehicles, commissions, accounting estimates, etc.
  • Research discrepancies and escalate issues to meet close dates
  • Participate in the documentation and update of processes and procedures and recommend changes for process improvement initiatives
  • Perform special projects, as required, to assist the company in achieving its goals and objectives

Skills, Experience and Other Job-Related Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline
  • 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience in accounting or related field
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and external contacts; ability to work as an effective team member
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Experience with accounting software (GP, PeopleSoft, Quickbooks, etc.)

Additional Competencies:

  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills and strong attention to details
  • Cooperative and service-oriented attitude; must be able to work under pressure and maintain a professional demeanor
  • Flexibility to handle a variety of tasks and shift priorities simultaneously
  • High level of initiative and ability to work with minimum supervision after training
  • Ability to use sound judgment to effectively solve problems within the scope of the position
