Director of Collections

Shared Services Centers Bethlehem Full-Time

  • Responsible for timely collection of patient charges
  • Establishes controls and reviews mechanisms for every procedure to ensure that systems and procedures are being followed correctly pertaining to collections
  • Develops specific objectives, budgets and performance standards.
  • Monitors progress for each position on a daily basis, utilizing quantitative productivity reports
  • Communicates new procedures to other departments
  • Communicate with third party payors in regard to claims processing difficulties or new processing procedures
  • Reviews collection files and daily follow-up work and discusses any discrepancies with appropriate employee
  • Oversees collections to maintain A/R within company guidelines
  • Implements and monitors accounting controls to protect the assets of the company
  • Reports financial activity to hospitals as needed
  • Provides coding education to staff as needed
  • Works with hospital operations to troubleshoot collection issues originating at the facility
  • Carries out Human Resources policies of CHS
  • Develops monthly strategies to ensure that monthly collection goals are obtained
  • Cash receipts as a percentages of adjusted net revenue at or above goal
  • Quarterly Net A/R days average at or below goal
  • Participates in all educational activities, and demonstrates personal responsibility for job performance
  • Maintains stable performance under pressure or opposition. Handles stress in ways to maintain relationships with patients, customers, and co-workers
  • Ability to work with technology necessary to complete job effectively. This includes, but it not limited to phone technology, MedHost, Artiva , SSI, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested



BA/BS Degree or higher in business, accounting or finance preferred. Experience may be considered in lieu of degree.


  • Five years of relative experience in a hospital billing, collections or business office required
  • Minimum of five years of supervisory or management experience required
  • Must be familiar with revenue cycle structure and process
  • Extensive knowledge of third party payors, collection laws, FTC rulings and collections procedures preferred
  • Must be able to follow directions and perform work according to department standards independently
  • Must be able to function under stressful conditions




  • 5 years: Supervisory or management experience
  • 5 years: Experience in a hospital billing, collections or business office
