Essential Duties and task of the Route Sales Representatives
                 

  • Loads bakery products onto truck.  While loading items onto truck, verifies product count with sales order sheet.
  • Drives truck (with or without automatic shift) from store to store for product delivery.
  • Inspects display areas of existing bakery product while keying in inventory amounts on a hand held computer.  Talks with store representatives or customers while checking in or out of the store, trying to increase sales by obtaining additional displays in accounts.  
  • Removes outdated products from shelves of accounts for return to truck, and brings new product from truck to store and places it on shelves or display sites. Uses a “12-high" rack to transport product to and from the route truck.  
  • Reviews incoming inventory with store manager/representative to confirm amount delivered.
  • Takes new orders from customers for future delivery.
  • Unloads returned product at depot and places returned product on racks.
  • Completes inventory paper work at depot.
  • May train other drivers on sales routes.
  • Responds to customer inquiries or resolve customer complaints.
  • Puts gasoline in truck and checks oil.
  • Must be able to work a split week.  Typical workdays are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, usually with early morning start times.  The typical work days is eight to ten hours, but may vary.  This includes approximately two hours loading time and one hour check-in time.
  • Must be 21 years of age (Department of Transportation regulation).
  • Must have safe driving record and pass Company driving test.  Must provide copy of current driving record.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.  Interacts with store personnel or customers, providing information and promoting good relations.
  • Must have ability to learn and effectively utilize a computerized order and invoicing system.
  • Must be a “self-starter" and able to work independently without direct supervision for the majority of time.
  • Must be able to lift product to and from truck and into the store.
  • Must be bilingual (English/Spanish)
