Job Description

Summary of Responsibilities:
The Food Safety Specialist holds responsibility for ensuring the implementation of and adherence to Home Chef food safety standards for all departments and employees in the plants.
  • Execute food safety and sanitation policies and procedures developed by the corporate Food Safety team, and provide input into the design of the policies
  • Deliver training to FSQA and Production teams regarding food safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct routine internal audits of the plant to ensure compliance to the food safety program
  • Maintain responsibility for the execution of the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) plan and prerequisite programs (sanitation, pest control, environmental testing, GMPs, etc.)
  • Ensure completion of documentation for food safety programs by monitoring verification and corrective action logs
  • Work with production team to conduct root cause analysis for food safety non-conformances and customer complaints, and maintain responsibility for the corrective actions
  • Oversee allergen verification and control program
  • Oversee QA Receiving Logs, ensuring Receiving SOP is followed for all product; monitor all QA-owned fields in receiving sheets
  • Assist with FSQA process improvement projects
  • Support FSQA Manager with other responsibilities as assigned
  • Willingness to travel ~10% of the time

Job Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in food science, food technology, microbiology or related field
  • 5 years of experience in quality assurance, food safety, food distribution, food manufacturing, supply chain, or related field
  • 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of food microbiology, food safety, and food defense
  • Understanding of Food Safety regulations, laws, and best practices including those from FDA, USDA, and other state and local entities
  • Previous experience with GFSI, SQF and USDA audits
  • Certifications: PCQI, HACCP and ServSafe Manager within 3 months of hire
  • Experience designing and implementing HACCP / preventative controls plan
  • Ability to problem solve and work in a fast-paced environment without a lot of structure and/or supervision
