The full-time Professional Development Instructor Manager position is an exciting opportunity for the right person who is interested in making a difference in the teaching and learning of mathematics and science throughout ExploreLearning’s global learning community. 


The Professional Development Instructor Manager’s primary duty is to manage the Certified Instructor program. The Professional Development Instructor Manager will be responsible for ensuring ExploreLearning has the best-prepared, highest-quality instructors.  As a result, the Professional Development Instructor Manager will contribute to measurably improved workshop instructional practices, to effect utilization of ExploreLearning products, and to the generation of significant revenue for ExploreLearning in successful pilots, grants, renewals, and expansions. 


The Professional Development Instructor Manager is part of ExploreLearning’s Professional Development (PD) division and reports to ExploreLearning’s Director of Professional Development.  


Essential Job Functions: 


1. Management and Mentoring Duties (~75% of position)

• Contribute to the ExploreLearning’s PD division’s goals, objectives, and projects

• As Manager of Certified Instructors 

o Annually recruit and hire qualified Certified Instructors (CIs) as needed, in collaboration with PD Director

o Plan and coordinate on-boarding professional development experiences for new CIs, with assistance of PD Director

o Plan and coordinate mentoring professional development experiences for veteran CIs, with assistance of PD Director

o Plan and coordinate new school year kick-off webinars, with assistance of PD Director

o Develop positive working relationships with CIs through ongoing communication, support, and professional learning opportunities

o Provide ongoing observation, training, coaching, and evaluation of CIs with assistance of and as requested by PD Director and/or Area Implementation Manager 

o Support CIs in workshop modifications as requested by PD Schedulers

o Assist PD Director to supervise CI and PD staff (as requested) higher level workshop certification

o Assist PD Director with on-boarding and training webinar CIs

o Supervise CIs in their travel bookings, expense submissions, and other assignment details

o In collaboration with the PD Director, supervise CI hourly contracted projects

o Annually review the Certified Instructor program

o Annually review and revise the CI manual

o Annually review and revise CI contracts

o Collaborate with the PD Director to set, document, analyze, and manage the Certified Instructor program activities towards measurable performance metrics as needed


• As Manager of Master Instructor program

o Annually determine Master Instructor (MIs) needs, review qualified candidate applications and staff surveys and determine final assignments, in collaboration with PD Director

o Plan and coordinate Master Instructor (MIs) professional development experiences with assistance of PD Director

o Develop ongoing professional learning opportunities, with assistance of PD Director

o Provide ongoing observation, training, coaching and mentorship of MIs with assistance of and as requested by PD Director and/or Area Implementation Manager 

o Support MIs in any workshop modifications as requested by PD Schedulers

o Oversee development of sales and conference presentations and classroom modeling assignments as requested by sales, PD Director, or PD Scheduler

o Annually review the Master Instructors program

o Collaborate with the PD Director to set, document, analyze, and manage the Master Instructor program activities towards measurable performance metrics as needed


2. Workshop and Presentation Development Duties (~20% of position)

• Review and revise, as necessary, current PD offerings as directed by and with assistance from PD Director

• Create modeled lesson sequences and review sequences submitted by PD staff or CIs

• Develop video overviews of all workshops, with the assistance of the PD Director

• Create a complete library of videos for all workshops, with the assistance of the PD Director

• Review and revise workshop surveys, with assistance from PD Director

• Create and deliver presentations on math, science, and technology education topics for conferences, webinars and other appropriate venues, as assigned

• Other PD tasks, as assigned


3. Sales Assistance Duties (<5% of position)

• Represent ExploreLearning and present awareness sessions at pre-sales events and professional conferences, as assigned


4. Other duties

• If applicable, provide annual operating budget and annual revenue responsibility

• Track, document, and submit expenses related to ExploreLearning duties


Required Qualifications:

1. Education 

• Degree in math or science or math/science education,

• Teacher license in math or science.


2. Experience, Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Mental Requirements

• As a manager:

o 2-3 years of management experience

o Successful experience in recruiting, training, and managing staff and contract trainers and professional developers

o Proven ability to work with teams to set measurable goals and meet or exceed them. 

o Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time

o Ability to act independently and responsibly

o Proven leadership skills

o Excellent oral and written communication skills

o Ability to meet deadlines


• As a professional development and sales support provider:

o Experience delivering PD for teachers, particularly in mathematics and science

o 2-3 years of classroom experience as a teacher of mathematics and/or science

o Knowledge of educational research pertaining to instruction and PD in mathematics and science

o Skilled use of technology in teaching practice, for training events, and for personal use 

o Ability to travel (up to 75%) independently to complete assignments


3. Professional Requirements

• References attesting to 

o Elementary or Secondary education science and/or math professional developer skills 

o Elementary or Secondary math and/or science teaching skills 

o Management or coordinating skills

• Background check, if selected

• Fingerprinting, if selected

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

1. Education 

• Undergraduate degree in a math or science discipline or math or science education. 

• Teacher license in secondary math or science.

• Advanced degree in Curriculum and Instruction, School Leadership, or Math or Science Instruction


2. Experience, Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Mental Requirements

• 3-4 years of management or coordinator experience 

• 5-7 years experience as a professional development manager for a math and/or science K-12 program

• 3-4 years delivering PD for secondary teachers of mathematics and/or science

• 5 years of classroom experience as a teacher of secondary mathematics and/or science

• 2-3 years of Gizmo implementation experience as a mathematics and/or science classroom teacher

• Proven effectiveness in interacting with school district decision makers

• Mastery of the integration of technology in teaching practice, professional presentations, and for personal use 

• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time

• Previous experience as a telecommuter
