Certified Nursing Assistant (CNAs) assist nurses in general care and well being of residents; positions, transfers, moves and lifts residents; will feed and bathe residents as well as respond to their general needs; takes and records temperatures, pulses and respiration's; observes residents and reports unusual symptoms and/or behavior; ensures that restraints are correctly applied and clean; keeps beds, bedpans and related equipment clean; maintains unit environment for safety of resident; transports residents, specimens and other related resident items; may apply or remove braces and performs related duties as required.
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent as a minimum and completion of a certified nursing assistant course from an accredited college program and on North Carolina Registry.
Maintains yearly educational requirements to keep certification current
Desire 1 year current experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a long term nursing facility or hospital.
Must possess a sincere desire to serve the ill, aged and infirm.
Must have caring attitude with ability to work harmoniously with physicians, nurses, residents, administration, and general public.
Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
Maintaining the care and use of supplies, equipment, facility, etc., and maintaining the appearance of the nursing areas, residents rooms, regular inspection of resident’s rooms for sanitation, order and safety.
Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever physical, social, emotional, spiritual level the resident is able to understand and function.
Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
Perform all assigned duties in accordance with our established policies and procedures, nursing care procedures, and our safety rules and regulations.
Verify the identification of the resident before administering treatment, serving food, etc., to assure that appropriate treatment, etc., is being provided to the correct resident.
Perform all duties as assigned.
Assist residents with dental and mouth care.
Assist residents with identifying food arrangements. (i.e., informing blind or visually impaired residents of where food is located on tray.)
Assist with trays and feeding of residents. Remove trays when finished.
Perform after meal care as required. (Cleaning residents hand, face, clothing, etc.)
Assist in preparing residents for meals. (Taking to/from dining room, serving trays, placing bibs, assisting in feeding or cutting foods, supervision in dining room etc.)
Assure that resident’s food is accessible and self-help devices are available as needed.
Record resident’s food intake as directed.
Feed resident’s who cannot feed themselves.
Serve extra nourishment in accordance with established nursing care procedures.
Serve drinking water as required. Assure that water pitchers are cleaned and filled with fresh drinking water regularly.
Bathe residents as assigned and in accordance with our established nursing care procedures. (Encourage showers and other self-help measures/activities.)
Dress residents neatly, and in their own clothing. Assist residents in dressing as necessary.
Comb and brush residents’ hair daily or as needed. Shampoo as instructed.
Clip and trim toenails, fingernails, eyebrows, etc., as directed.
Shave male residents daily, or as instructed.
Keep hair under arms, legs, and face on female residents clean shaven as necessary or instructed.
Give back care as instructed.
Observe and report the presence of pressure area to prevent bed-sores.
Assist residents to/from bathroom. Offer bed-fast residents bedpans, urinals, portable toilet, etc. Clean and store such equipment AFTER EACH USE. (Report intake/output as directed.)
Keep incontinent residents clean and dry as possible AT ALL TIMES. Change bed liens and clothing as often as necessary.
Check and report bowel movements and character of stools as directed.
Make beds, clean beside tables, clean bedrails, etc., as well as other housekeeping duties that relate to nursing care procedures.
Assist residents in preparing for test, x-rays, therapy, activities, physician visits, religious services, etc., to include transporting residents to/from such activities.
Assist in therapy treatment as instructed.
Place resident in correct and comfortable position and assure that side rails are up, if appropriate.
Move and turn bed-fast residents at least every two (2) hours and record such information as directed.
Use safety chair/bed restraints as directed. (Per physician orders)
Observe disoriented and comatose residents as directed. Record data as directed.
Assist residents into chairs, beds, bathroom, bathtubs, showers, etc.
Report all complaints to the charge nurse.
Check residents at least every 2 hours or as directed.
Assist residents to walk with or without self-help devices as necessary.
Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as directed.
Report any resident leaving the premises, or who has left the premises, to the charge nurse immediately. (Ensure safety and security of resident at ALL Times, i.e., respond to ALL safety alarms attached to exit door.)
Keep floors dry and free of unnecessary equipment, supplies, etc., to prevent accidents.
Assure that established smoking regulations are followed by personnel, visitors, residents, and the general public. Report violations to the charge nurse immediately.
