1. Works with administrative, instructional and non-instructional staff, to put into place evidence-based trauma-informed systems to reduce re-traumatization, promote student resilience and increase positive academic and non-academic outcomes for WSHS students and families.
2. Establishes a comprehensive trauma-informed approach to address both preventative and responsive measures for the WSHS program. Ensures that existing school and community resources are utilized to work with students identified as being exposed to trauma.
3. Provides training and technical consultation to WSHS staff and leadership on evidence-based practices and strategies with a particular focus on childhood mental health and Trauma Informed Care.
4. Promotes social-emotional well-being through a trauma-informed infant and early childhood mental health approach by providing mental health expertise to classrooms, homes and situations. Assessing, evaluating and creating therapeutic interventions to best support child and family.
5. Supporting and collaborating with Education, Home Based and Family Services staff, and the Disabilities and Behavioral Health Team members for the general well-being of children, families, classrooms, and homes.
6. Facilitates the creation and implementation of individualization plans with teachers, families, and trans-disciplinary team individualized plans for children. Completes individual observations of children and provides ongoing support to ensure successful implementation of the individualized mental health plan.
7. Participates in Multi-disciplinary groups, develops intervention plans, and provides resources to staff or families.
8. Facilitates teacher and parent meetings that pertain to mental health issues. Strengthens family and staff capacity to support social, emotional, and relational health of children and families in a range of settings
9. Provides workshops, seminars and/or psycho-educational group sessions on a particular subject to assist families and to enable them to function more adequately in their everyday living
10. Opens, compiles and maintains complete and accurate case records according to best practices, maintains appropriate caseload as needed, follows agency and professional standards and follows up with clients regarding missed appointments.
11. Coordinates clinical care with appropriate internal and external agency personnel including supervisor, primary care physician, referral sources, etc. consults with referral sources to gather information to assist in client referral and expectations. Works with supervisor (or other credentialed professional) in consultation to ensure appropriate diagnosis and treatment is given to each client
12. Maintains strict confidentiality at all times regarding client information so as not to violate professional codes of ethics
13. Manages caseload to meet agency productivity requirements. Follows up with new/continuing clients regarding missed appointments
14. Develop relationship-based collaborations with staff that builds on their strengths and provides intensive differentiated support to improve program practices
15. Meet with teachers and families to develop individual intervention plans for behavior, share resources to support family with managing behaviors. Monitor and follow-up on child plans and implementation
16. Participates in the process of ongoing professional and personal development which specifically targets behavior focused de-escalation strategies to utilize with young children and focuses on children with Behavioral Health diagnoses and acting out behaviors. Collaborate with Disabilities and behavioral health team members and outside agencies and families for referral and consultation services
17. Provides individual support and role modeling to children and teachers by seeing them in schools/homes and helping them in reaching specific treatment plan goals, educate and coordinate with parents to carry out plans at home.
18. May need to assist with a broad range of mental health services including intake, assessment, development and implementation of treatment plans for individuals, couples and families. Ensures services are clinically appropriate, coordinating services that are outpatient or home based.

1. Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
2. Current Associate or Professional License by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners in counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy required or reciprocity licensure from another state to Arizona. Will consider those in the process of acquiring Professional License depending on experience.
3. Post licensure experience working with students with behavioral/emotional disabilities;
4. Minimum of one (1) year experience working with 0-5-year-old children with behavior problems and their families, as well as training adults on mental health, social-emotional screening and behavior management techniques working in a classroom setting and/or consulting with teachers.
5. Second language fluency (speaking, reading, writing) preferred (languages spoken within the program include but are not limited to the languages of Mexico and Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia).
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge and understanding of the Early Childhood Development mental health issues related to young children, ages 0-5.
2. Demonstrated understanding of infant and early childhood behavioral health
3. Experience working with children in trauma and knowledge of trauma informed care
4. Understanding of PBIS, intentional social-emotional curriculum
5. Knowledge or experience in organization and operations of educational social services
6. Knowledge of supports to children with atypical behaviors, substance abused newborns and/or exposure to trauma as well as disability services preferred
7. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, statutes, and polices related to early childhood programming
8. Must be able to communicate effectively and accurately in written and verbal form.
9. Must have attention to detail and ability to maintain program statistics and effectively manage time to balance program needs.
10. Diversity management with sensitivity to the cultural differences within the agency, program, and community.
11. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word and Outlook).
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
1. Some evening and weekend hours required.
2. May be exposed to communicable diseases and varying temperatures during community work.
3. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with moderate interruptions.
4. Must be able to work with pre-school age children.
5. Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, assist children to the bathroom, sit on floor and ambulate over uneven floor surfaces including stairs, steps and playgrounds.
6. Must be able to visually and auditorily assess and interact with clients to ensure their safety and well-being.
7. Requires driving and may lift up to 40 pounds.
Other Employment Requirements
1. Meets Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS) requirements for licensure or is in the process to become eligible for licensure
2. Possesses or acquires, and maintains, Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance
3. Approved documentation of a negative result for a tuberculin (TB) skin test or chest x-ray
4. Meets federal Head Start employment requirements including physical examination at hire (and every three years thereafter)
5. Possesses or completes verified training in First Aid and CPR (within ninety  days of hire) and remains current in the certification
6. Possesses or acquires, and maintains, valid Maricopa County Environmental Services Food Service Worker Certificate
7. Possesses and maintains valid Arizona driver license (An individual must be 21 years of age or older to drive on behalf of Westside Head Start and Catholic Charities Community Services)
8. Reliable personal transportation and ability to show proof of current/valid vehicle registration and insurance
