The Residential Aid reports to the Program Director/PCH Administrator or Licensed Practical Nurse.The Aid is responsible for operating in accordance with established Personal Care Home policies and procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations. He/she will provide direct care and assistance to residents and functions as a member of the memory care team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides direct nursing care and assistance to assigned residents inthe memory care unit:
Provides personal care for residents as outlined in the resident’s support plan under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Establishes and maintains a positive rapport with residents, family members, visitors, and co-workers in providing direct nursing care;
Supports and assists residents with all activities of daily living e.g. bathing, dining… in accordance with resident’s preferences and choices as well as the resident’s support plan and established policies, procedures and prescribed timeframes.
Properly answers call bells in a timely fashion for assigned residents and any others on the unit;
Promptly reports any suspected or actual resident neglect or abuse to immediate supervisor;
Responds promptly to emergency resident situations, notifying immediate supervisor as required;
Assists in identifying the spiritual, social, recreational, and daily needs of the residents. Functions as an effective member of the resident care team by completing assignments in a timely, accurate, and caring manner;
Effectively collaborates with other memory care team members to create and maintain a home–like community of warmth, personal interest, and positivity throughout the unit;
Maintains and encourages the independence of residents by guiding and assisting them with daily activities such as bed making, dusting, folding clothes, laundry, etc.;
Escorts residents to dining area for meals. Assist with tasks related to dining including setting up, meal prep, light cooking, serving and cleanup;
Dependent upon specific assignments, may:
Assists with bowel and bladder retraining for those residents who are incontinent
Welcomes and assists with new admissions, obtain vital signs, weight, height, complete inventory sheet, and appropriately label patient/resident belongings and equipment
Participates in all activities of the unit, seeking always to engage residents and provide meaningful activities for them.
Strictly adheres to safety and infection control rules, regulations, policies, and procedures:
Follows standard procedures at all times;
Utilizes equipment in resident care procedures properly and safely with minimal risk to self and others and in compliance with operating instructions;
Identifies potential safety hazards and promptly reports hazards to the appropriate department in a timely fashion either verbally or in writing;
Adheres to established policy and procedures regarding resident neglect and abuse;
Follows established emergency procedures to include fire, disaster, and evacuation plans and procedures.
Actively participates in performance improvement activities and special projects, as required or as assigned.May serve as a participant on various internal committees.
Education and/or Experience
CNA with current and valid Pennsylvania Notice of Enrollment with Nurse Aide registry required.
CPR and First Aid Certification recommended
At least (2) years of related work experience preferred with at least 1 year working with cognitively impaired older adults.
