The Hand & Wrist Center, located in Long Beach, California, specializes in the care of hand and wrist conditions and injuries. Our Center is dedicated to providing patients with complete care from the first evaluation through total rehabilitation.

We are looking for a full-time Medical Assistant to start immediately.

At our Center, medical assistants performs many important functions that directly relate to patient care. Additionally, medical assistants provide important administrative support in areas of insurance authorization and benefit coordination, as well as medical billing.

Patient Care*

*Participation in any patient care shall be done only while under the direct supervision of a Physician and/or other Clinician.

 Assist the Physician/Clinician in rendering the following patient services:

◦  Application of new/replacement bandages

◦  Preparing patients for radiographs to be taken

◦  Splint fitting (for pre-fabricated items) or custom-fabrication of splints or casts

◦  Performing in-office procedures

◦  Providing patient education/instruction

◦  Address medical-related patient questions for established diagnoses / conditions

◦  Refer patients to the Physician/Clinician for answers regarding the scope of their entire treatment, other undiagnosed symptoms / conditions, or other questionable reasons

Other General Clinical Duties

 Triage, room and prepare patients for initial and follow-up clinical examinations

 Assist in scheduling patient appointments

 Assist in dispensing of medical supplies, durable medical goods and other items when applicable

 Maintain all examination rooms and other patient-treatment areas stocked with appropriate medical (and office) supply inventories

 Assist in daily/weekly cleaning and sanitizing of examination room and other patient-treatment areas

 Assist in daily/weekly cleaning and sanitizing of equipment and furniture

 Assist in daily/weekly cleaning and sanitizing (“autoclaving”) of clinical instruments

Clerical Duties

 Provide in-room secretarial assistance (i.e. transcription, creating work/school notes, processing patient paperwork, etc.)

 Using appropriate grammar, sentence structure and punctuation, document all clinical activities (in the medical record), that pertain to a patient’s visit, examination and/or other circumstance

 Process and coordinate clinical requests for diagnostic studies, therapeutic services, in-office procedures, inpatient/outpatient surgical services and/or other secondary services such as referrals to other healthcare providers and facilities

 Complete and process forms and other paperwork for patients relating to their medical care (i.e. Doctor’s First Report of Injury, disability forms, work/school forms, Insurance forms and other reports, incoming correspondence, etc.)

 Complete and submit billing documents for the billing of services provided to patients

 Assist in answering telephone calls and triaging callers with medical questions and other related concerns

 Assist in maintaining department protocols current when changes in department workflows demand such
